''Anniversary'' is an EP by the hardcore punk band the Teen Idles The Teen Idles were an American hardcore punk band formed in Washington, D.C. in September 1979. Consisting of teenagers Nathan Strejcek, Geordie Grindle, Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, they recorded two demo sessions and the 1980 ''Minor Disturb .... It was released in 1996 on Dischord Records to commemorate the label's 100th release. The EP contains material from the two demo sessions the band recorded in February and April 1980. Tracks 1 and 3 were written by the Slinkees, the original name of the band before Nathan Strejcek joined on vocals. Writing for AllMusic, critic Jack Rabid said, "This is Teen Idles as a punk band, at merely really fast tempos, before they opted for the blinding thrash rush that led to such speeds becoming the stupid staple of hardcore...Like their then-D.C. friends the Bad Brains, only half as good, Teen Idles were actually a budding punk pleasure in their pre-hardcore days". The Teen Idles were an American hardcore punk band formed in Washington, D.C. in September 1979. Dischord Records is a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label specializing in punk rock. The label is co-owned by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, who founded Dischord in 1980 to release ''Minor Disturbance'' by their band The Teen Idles. Minor Disturbance
''Minor Disturbance'' is the debut EP by the American hardcore punk band the Teen Idles, released in December 1980. It was the first release by Dischord Records. Comprising eight songs, ''Minor Disturbance'' referenced a number of issues pertinent to the band, from being turned away at local concerts due to their age ("Too Young to Rock") to what they felt was the increasing complacency of many first wave punk bands ("Fleeting Fury"). Upon its release, ''Minor Disturbance'' received positive reviews from local fanzines and gained airplay on local radio stations. ''The Big Takeover'' is a bi-annual music magazine published out of New York City since May 1980 by critic Jack Rabid. History Establishment Jack Rabid and Dave Stein began publishing ''The Big Takeover'' in May 1980 as a fanzine dedicated to New York punk band the Stimulators. The pair had formed a garage band the previous month called Even Worse, originally playing mainly punk rock cover songs. Ian MacKaye
Ian Thomas Garner MacKaye (; born April 16, 1962) is an American musician. Active since 1979, he is best known as the co-founder and owner of Dischord Records, a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label and the frontman of hardcore punk band Minor Threat and post-hardcore band Fugazi. MacKaye was also the frontman for the short-lived bands the Teen Idles, Embrace, and Pailhead, a collaboration with the band Ministry. Jeff Nelson (musician)
Jeff Nelson (born 1962 in South Africa) is an American drummer and graphic designer. He is best known as the drummer for the Washington, D.C. hardcore punk band Minor Threat. Biography Nelson met Ian MacKaye in high school and the two saw their first punk rock show, The Cramps, together. Soon after, they formed their first band, The Slinkees. After playing one show, a lineup change caused them to rename the band The Teen Idles. He also co-founded the independent record label Dischord Records along with MacKaye in 1980, whose first record was the Teen Idles. They continue to run Dischord together. The duo also comprised the projects Skewbald/Grand Union and Egg Hunt; both bands recorded only one single.
