Teddy Bear (1980 Film)
''Teddy Bear'' is the English title of ''Miś'' , a 1981 Polish comedy film directed by Stanisław Bareja. ''Teddy Bear'', along with '' The Cruise'' ''(Rejs)'', was a reflection of contemporary Polish society using surreal humor to somehow get past the censorship at the time. It gained cult status in its native country. Later, the film was reappraised by critics and it has been regarded as one of the best Polish films ever made. Plot Rysiek ( Stanisław Tym, who also co-wrote the screenplay), the shrewd manager of a state-sponsored sports club, has to travel to London before his ex-wife Irena ( Barbara Burska) gets there to collect a large sum of money from their joint savings account. However, getting out of a communist country is never easy, even for a well-connected operator like Rysiek. Stanisław Tym
Stanisław Aleksy Tym (; 17 July 1937 – 6 December 2024) was a Polish actor, comedian, journalist, and satirist, as well as a film and theatre director and writer. Tym co-produced and starred in many films by Stanisław Bareja. He gained much fame for his performance in the cult film by Marek Piwowski, ''The Cruise (1970 film), Rejs'' (''The Cruise''). In another cult film, Teddy Bear (1981 film), Teddy Bear, he co-authored the script and played two main roles. In the 1990s, he was a columnist for the popular Polish news magazine Wprost, later writing for the newspaper Rzeczpospolita (newspaper), Rzeczpospolita and for Polityka starting in 2007. He was the winner of many awards, including the Nagroda Kisiela for best columnist in 1998. Tym died on 6 December 2024, at the age of 87. Kent "Nut" Washington (born January 10, 1956) is an American former professional basketball player. He was the first American as well as the first black professional basketball player to play behind the Iron Curtain. He played professional basketball in the Polish People's Republic from 1979–83. Zofia Czerwińska (19 March 1933 – 13 March 2019) was a Polish actress known for her role in the TV series ''Alternatives 4'' in the role of Zofia Balcerkowa. Life Czerwińska was born in 1933 in Poznań. She was the only child of Marian and Anna Urszula of the Czerwiński family. She attended the V (five) High school in Gdansk and was said to be an outstanding post-war alumnae. She studied drama at the theatre in Krakow. She had a long acting career in film and television taking 150 different roles. She was particularly remembered for her role in the TV series ''Alternatives 4'' in the role of Zofia Balcerkowa. She was active in campaigning for animal rights and to curb homophobia. Czerwińska died in Warsaw in 2019. She had undergone surgery, against expert advice, and had not recovered.
