Ted Clark
Edward Austen Clark (born 13 April 1937) is a former English cricketer. He played for Middlesex between 1959 and 1966, with occasional games thereafter until 1976. Middlesex career A right-handed middle-order batsman, Clark made his first-class debut for Middlesex against Cambridge University in June 1959, scoring 25 in the first innings and 100 not out, in two hours, in the second. He topped Middlesex's batting averages in the County Championship that season with 728 runs at 34.66 in 12 matches. ''Wisden'' described him as "a splendid batsman, with a fine temperament" and a "readiness to play strokes", and added that his "121 and 73 not out against Northamptonshire when Middlesex were in difficulties showed his fighting qualities". A back injury restricted his appearances in 1960 but he returned to fitness in 1961, made 1335 runs at 26.70, and was awarded his county cap. Balham
Balham () is an List of areas of London, area in south-west London, England, in the London Borough of Wandsworth, with small parts extending into the neighbouring London Borough of Lambeth. It has been settled since Saxon times and appears in the Domesday Book as Belgeham. The area saw significant development after the opening of Balham railway station in 1856. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's, Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London, England. The club was the governing body of cricket from 1788 to 1989 and retains considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Changes to these Laws are now determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), but the copyright is still owned by MCC. Middlesex (; abbreviation: Middx) is a former county in South East England, now mainly within Greater London. ''The Cricketer'' is a monthly English cricket magazine providing writing and photography from international, county, club and schools cricket. Overview The magazine was founded in 1921 by Sir Pelham Warner, an ex-England captain turned cricket writer. Warner edited the magazine until 1963. Later editors included E. W. Swanton, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, Reg Hayter and Simon Hughes. The magazine is responsible for the National Village Cup, an annual competition between village cricket sides, with the final played at Lord's. It devised the Cricketer Cup competition for old boys' teams from the public schools, which began with 16 teams in 1967 and has since expanded. The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players.
