Technomancer (album)
''Technomancer'' is a studio album by American electronic musician Pictureplane. It was released by Anticon on October 30, 2015. Music videos were created for "Self Control", "Technomancer", "Death Condition", and "Joyrider". Production Most of the album was created using the Access Virus synthesizer. Pictureplane also used an old desktop computer. Brad Hoss, Dre Skull, D Gookin, and Lars Stafford helped engineer the album. "Self Control" and "Live Forever" featured guest vocalist Grace Hall. Pictureplane described it as "an album about our current relationship with technology and how it is defining our existence right now." The title of the album refers to "someone who uses technology for magical purposes." Critical reception Derek Staples of ''Spectrum Culture'' gave the album a 2.75 out of 5, calling it "an amalgam of androgynous lyricism, shoegaze electronics, second-wave acid techno and downtempo darkwave." Pictureplane
Travis Egedy (born May 1, 1985), better known by his stage name Pictureplane, is an American electronic musician, visual artist and fashion designer based in Brooklyn, New York. He first appeared in the music scene of Denver, Colorado, making a name for himself at Rhinoceropolis, the DIY space where he also lived. He has been credited for coining the term "witch house". He is also a founder of the fashion brand Alien Body. Biography Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Travis Egedy grew up a fan of hip hop. In 2001, he started making music, using the Magix Music Maker software. He was a member of the hip hop group Thinking in Circles. He moved to Denver, Colorado to attend the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. While at RMCAD, he became interested in noise and experimental music. Kevin Marques Moo (born 1974), better known by his stage name Daddy Kev, is an American DJ, Grammy Award-winning audio engineer, record producer and executive from Los Angeles, California. He is the owner of Alpha Pup Records and the founder of Low End Theory. As an audio engineer, Daddy Kev has mixed and mastered albums by Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, and Leon Bridges. Early life Daddy Kev was born and raised in the Harbor City neighborhood of Los Angeles. As a child, he played piano and trumpet. At the age of 13, he started playing turntables. Tamaryn Brown is a New Zealand songwriter and singer based in Los Angeles. Since 2008, Tamaryn has released four studio albums, an EP and several singles. Her multifaceted style melds various genres such as dream pop, shoegaze, post-punk, gothic rock, synth-pop and electronic. Early life Tamaryn Brown was born in New Zealand. She was raised by a mother and godmother who were Jungian psychologists, and the family moved frequently around New Zealand and, later, the United States. The Access Virus is a virtual analog synthesizer made by the German company Access Music GmbH. It was first produced in 1997 and has since been upgraded frequently, with the company releasing new models about every two years. Early models include the Virus A, Virus B, and Virus C series, each available in various hardware configurations. In November 2005, the Virus TI series was released, including the 61-key Virus TI Keyboard and the 37-key Virus TI Polar. A small desktop model was released in February 2008 called the Virus TI Snow. A revision of the TI series called TI2 came out in March 2009, featuring faster digital signal processing (DSP) controllers, additional polyphony, more effects in the effect section and a slightly changed design. ''Cyclic Defrost'' is an Australian specialist electronic music magazine. It was founded and edited by Sebastian Chan, with current editors Bob Baker Fish, Chris Downton and Peter Hollo. It covers independent electronic music, avant-rock, experimental sound art and left field hip hop. History and profile The magazine started as a photocopied zine in 1998, as an offshoot of the weekly Sydney club night Frigid, run by Chan and co-editor/designer Dale Harrison.
