Teardrop Explodes
The Teardrop Explodes were an English post-punk/neo-psychedelic band formed in Liverpool in 1978. Best known for their Top Ten UK single " Reward", the group originated as a key band in the emerging Liverpool post-punk scene of the late 1970s. The group also launched the career of group frontman Julian Cope as well as that of keyboard player and co-manager David Balfe (later a record producer, A&R man and founder of Food Records). Other members included early Smiths producer Troy Tate. Along with other contemporary Liverpudlian groups, The Teardrop Explodes played a role in returning psychedelic elements to mainstream British rock and pop, initially favouring a modernised version of lightly psychedelic late 1960s-influenced beat-group sound (sometimes described as "bubblegum trance") and later exploring more experimental areas. Ron François
Ron François (born April 1958) is a British musician, who first came to notice as the lead singer and bass player of the English R&B band The Strutters, which was involved in the London pub rock scene of the mid-1970s. In 1978, he recorded the debut album '' Stateless'' with the Lene Lovich band, from which came the UK hit single "Lucky Number". He then toured with the Lene Lovich band on the Stiff Records "Be Stiff Route 78 Tour" of the UK and New York. From 1978 to 1981, François worked with ex-Strutters Mark Kjeldsen and Bobbi (Irwin) Trehern in the Sinceros, who made two albums for Epic Records, '' The Sound of Sunbathing'' and '' Pet Rock'', and achieved moderate success before they disbanded in 1981. Echo & the Bunnymen are an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1978. The original line-up consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bassist Les Pattinson. By 1980, Pete de Freitas joined as the band's drummer. Their 1980 debut album '' Crocodiles'' went into the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart. After releasing their second album '' Heaven Up Here'' in 1981, the band's cult status was followed by mainstream success in the UK in 1983 when they scored a UK Top 10 hit with " The Cutter", and the album which the song came from, ''Porcupine'', hit number 2 in the UK. Peter James Wylie (born 22 March 1958) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known as the leader of the band variously known as Wah!, Wah! Heat, Shambeko! Say Wah!, JF Wah!, The Mighty Wah! and Wah! The Mongrel. Career Early bands Wylie was born on 22 March 1958 in Liverpool. He began his career in 1977 with lead vocalist Ian McCulloch and bassist Julian Cope, with whom he formed the band Crucial Three, which lasted from May to June the same year. Later that year, he performed as a member of the short-lived punk band Mystery Girls, who gave only one performance, supporting Sham 69 at Eric's Club in November 1977, and was composed of Pete Burns and Julian Cope. Ian Stephen McCulloch (born 5 May 1959) is an English singer-songwriter and musician, best known as the lead singer of the rock band Echo & the Bunnymen. The Smiths
