Te Kawau
Te Kawau RFC is a rugby club in the Manawatu province. It is based in Rongotea which is roughly a 15-minute drive from Palmerston North. The Te Kawau rugby uniform consists of green and black hooped socks, black shorts and a green and black hooped jersey. Te Kawau is a Māori term meaning " Great cormorant". This is reflected in the club's logo which the supporters are two cormorants. History The current club was formed as a result of the locals believing that the area would be best suited to be run as one club, the new club attracting players from Hui Mai, Awahuri and Newbury as well as Rongotea. The club has entered a team in the Manawatu Rugby Union senior 1 competition every year since 1953. The club's senior 1 success has fluctuated somewhat and reached a pinnacle in 1962 when with Viv Long as coach they won the senior 1 competition. Rugby Football
Rugby football is the collective name for the team sports of rugby union and rugby league. Perry Harris
Perry Colin Harris (11 January 1946 – 8 August 2021) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A prop, Harris represented Manawatu at a provincial level, and was called into the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, as a replacement on their 1976 tour of South Africa. He played four matches for the All Blacks including one international. Harris died in Papamoa on 8 August 2021, aged 75. Asaeli Tikoirotuma (born 24 June 1986) is a Fijian rugby union player. His regular playing position is wing. Until 2018 he played for the London Irish in the Green King IPA Championship In his inaugural Super Rugby season in 2012, he won the Super Rugby title with the Chiefs on 4 August at the 2012 Super Rugby Final at home at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton. Doug Tietjens
Doug Tietjens (born 7 February 1984) is a former Australian-born New Zealand rugby union player who last played as a flanker for Taranaki in the National Provincial Championship, having shifted north to the province after 45 matches with Manawatu from 2008 to 2012. Domestic career Although he was born in Australia, Tietjens grew up in New Zealand and attended school in Palmerston North. He moved south to attend the University of Otago in 2004, and was selected to Otago B sides in 2006 and 2007 but never played for the full Otago provincial squad. Returning north in 2008, Tietjens cracked the Manawatu squad for the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup. Super Rugby
Super Rugby is a men's professional rugby union club competition involving teams from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. It previously included teams from Argentina, Japan, and South Africa. Building on various Southern Hemisphere competitions dating back to the South Pacific Championship in 1986, with teams from a number of southern nations, the Super Rugby started as the Super 12 in the 1996 season with 12 teams from 3 countries: Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Highlanders (rugby Union)
The Highlanders (formerly the Otago Highlanders) is a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Dunedin that compete in Super Rugby. The team was formed in 1996 to represent the lower South Island in the newly formed Super 12 competition, and includes the Otago, North Otago and Southland unions. The Highlanders take their name from the Scottish immigrants that helped found the Otago, North Otago, and Southland regions in the 1840s and 1850s. Their main ground through the 2011 Super Rugby season was Carisbrook in Dunedin, with home games occasionally being played in Invercargill and Queenstown. Queensland Reds
The Queensland Reds is the rugby union team for the Australian state of Queensland that competes in the Southern Hemisphere's Super Rugby competition. Prior to 1996, they were a representative team selected from the rugby union club competitions in Queensland. With the introduction of the professional Super 12 competition they moved to a model where players are contracted to the Reds through the Queensland Rugby Union rather than selected on the basis of club form. From 1996 to 2005 they were one of three Australian teams competing in the Super 12 competition, alongside the New South Wales Waratahs and the ACT Brumbies. Western Force
The Western Force is an Australian professional rugby union team based in Perth, Western Australia, currently competing in Super Rugby Pacific. They previously played in Super Rugby from 2006 until they were axed from the competition in 2017. Following their axing they played in the National Rugby Championship in 2018 and 2019, replacing the Perth Spirit, and Global Rapid Rugby from 2018 to 2020, an Indo-Pacific competition organised by Andrew Forrest. David Te Moana
David Te Moana (born 16 February 1982) is a New Zealand rugby union player who plays at prop. He notably played for Manawatu in the National Provincial Championship. Playing career A late starter, Te Moana didn't play an organised rugby match until he was 18, and had moved to Australia to work in construction before he started taking the sport seriously. By 2005, he had found his way into the Queensland Reds academy, and for the 2006 Super 14 season was included in the Western Force squad for their inaugural season. After making 6 substitute appearances in his season for the Force, Te Moana found himself back with the Reds for the 2007 Super 14 season, making 5 starts. However, this would be his last appearance in the competition for a further 4 years. The Hurricanes ( ; formerly the Wellington Hurricanes) is a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Wellington that competes in Super Rugby. The Hurricanes were formed to represent the lower North Island, including the East Coast, Hawke's Bay, Horowhenua Kapiti, Manawatu, Poverty Bay, Wairarapa-Bush, Wanganui and Wellington unions.
