Tchamba Prefecture is one of the prefectures of Togo located in the Centrale Region. The center is at Tchamba. Centrale Region, Togo
Centrale is one of Togo's five regions. Sokodé is the regional capital. Centrale is the least populated region in Togo with a total of 617,871 people according to a census done in 2010. Other major cities in the Centrale region include Tchamba and Sotouboua. Centrale is divided into the prefectures of Blitta, Subprefecture Mö, Sotouboua, Tchamba, and Tchaoudjo. Centrale is located north of Plateaux Region and south of Kara Region. Like the rest of the regions of Togo, it borders Ghana in the west and Benin in the east — specifically the Northern Region in the northwest and the Volta Region in the southwest, and the Donga Department in the northeast and the Collines Department in the southeast. Tchamba

The name Tchamba sometimes spelled Chamba, stands for both a city located in Tchamba Prefecture in the Centrale Region of Togo, and the tribe living in that area. Tchamba is originally a tribe living in and around the town of Chamba, Ghana in the Northern Region, Ghana of present-day Ghana, on the road from Salaga to Bimbilla. Part of the tribe is still living there; others have migrated to Accra and there is also an ex-pat community of Tchambas in Frankfurt (Main) in Germany. The Tchambas are known as aborigines (indigenous people) of Northern Ghana, once covering an area as large as the present Dagbon. The Cantons of Togo are the third-level administrative units of the country, after regions and prefectures; which in turn they are subdivided into villages. They are similar to communes or sub-districts or sub-prefectures of other French African nations. As of 2013 there were 387 cantons, grouped within 35 prefectures.
