Picrodendraceae
Picrodendraceae is a family of flowering plants, consisting of 80 species in 24 genera.Stephens, P.F. (2001 onwards). Angiosperm Phylogeny Website. Version 9, June 2008. http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/Research/APweb/ These are subtropical to tropical and found in New Guinea, Australia, New Caledonia, Madagascar, continental Africa, and tropical America. Its closest relatives are Phyllanthaceae. This family used to be known as the subfamily Oldfieldioideae of the Euphorbiaceae. Taxonomy The family contains about 80 species organised into three tribes, ten subtribes and 24 genera. ''Parodiodendron'' is a monotypic plant genus under the family Picrodendraceae, described as a genus in 1969. The sole species is ''Parodiodendron marginivillosum'' . It is found in northern Argentina (Jujuy and Salta Provinces), Bolivia (Tarija and Santa Cruz departments). It is listed as vulnerable, threatened by habitat loss. The genus name of ''Parodiodendron'' is in honour of Lorenzo Raimundo Parodi (1895–1966), an Argentinian botanist and agricultural engineer, professor of botany in Buenos Aires and La Plata with a focus on South American grasses. It was first described and published in Kurtziana Vol.5 on page 331 in 1969.
