Tau Alpha Pi
Tau Alpha Pi () is a scholastic honor society that recognizes academic achievement among students in the field of engineering technology. Tau Alpha Pi honor society has 85 chapters across the United States and a total membership of approximately 7,000. It is one of the most selective honor societies in the United States, only inviting the top four percent of an institution's total engineering technology enrollment. History The society was founded at Southern Polytechnic State University in 1953 by professor Jesse DeFore, head of the physics department at Southern Polytechnic State University. The purpose of Tau Alpha Pi is twofold. First, to recognize high standards of scholarship among students in engineering technology programs. The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) is a voluntary association of national collegiate and post-graduate honor societies. It was established on December 30, 1925 by six organizations: Alpha Omega Alpha, the Order of the Coif, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, and Tau Beta Pi.
