Tarot Suite
''Tarot Suite'' is the third solo album by English singer-songwriter Mike Batt, credited as "Mike Batt and Friends". It was released in 1979 by Epic Records. Background and content ''Tarot Suite'' is a concept album, inspired by the 22 Major Arcana trump cards of the tarot deck, of which Batt had been fascinated by the artwork and tradition. The album's liner notes include a description of the various cards and how they individually relate to each track on the album. Like his previous album ''Schizophonia'' (1977), ''Tarot Suite'' contains what Batt has described as an "experimental combination of rock and symphonic instruments. Critical reception In a review for AllMusic, Dave Sleger said that the album is "an artfully and literate collection of orchestrated rock & roll", and that it features an "impressive assemblage of musicians". He opined that on the track "Imbecile", guest singer Roger Chapman "has never appeared to have better control of his voice". Track listing All ... Mike Batt
Michael Philip Batt (born 6 February 1949) is an English singer-songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, director, and conductor. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry. Batt created the novelty pop band The Wombles, after recording the theme song for the animated BBC series of the same name. He also composed the song " Bright Eyes" for the 1978 animated film '' Watership Down''. Batt promoted the early career of singer Katie Melua after signing her to his label, Dramatico. He wrote, arranged and produced her debut album '' Call Off the Search'' and her following two albums. William Rory Gallagher ( ; 2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995) was an Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. John Timperley (sound Engineer)
John Timperley (11 January 1940 – 20 September 2006), was a British audio engineer, who worked on recordings of a number of important musicians and groups from the 1960s to the 1990s. Timperley was influential in the music recording industry in the United Kingdom and other countries. He gained his training at the IBC Studios in London in the late 1950s, working with his long time friend, Keith Grant, primarily on classical recordings and the early pop music. He then worked at Ryemuse Studios, where he recorded Cream's first LP and numerous hits in the 1960s. He then briefly worked at Olympic Studios, before being asked to set up the new Chappell recording studios at Bond Street where he subsequently became manager and chief engineer. Trevor Morais (born 10 October 1944) is an English drummer who has been a member of several notable groups such as Faron's Flamingos, Rory Storm and The Hurricanes, The Peddlers, Quantum Jump and the Elkie Brooks backing band. He is also a session musician who has played on recordings by Tina Turner, David Essex, Howard Jones and Björk. Tony McPhee
Anthony Charles McPhee (23 March 1944 – 6 June 2023) was an English guitarist and singer. He was the founder of the British blues and rock band the Groundhogs. Career McPhee was given the name "T.S." — standing for "Tough Shit" — when he released a duet single with Champion Jack Dupree — titled "Get Your Head Happy!" — in 1966. Producer Mike Vernon suggested adding to McPhee's last name in order to make it look more like an official blues name. The Groundhogs backed Dupree and John Lee Hooker on UK concerts in the mid-1960s. The band evolved into a blues-rock trio that produced three UK Top 10 albums in the UK in the early 1970s.
