Tarmo Oja
Tarmo Oja (21 December 1934 – 18 November 2024) was an Estonian-born Swedish professor in astronomy at Uppsala University who studied galactic structure and variable stars. He was the director at the Swedish Kvistaberg Station of the Uppsala Observatory from 1970 until his retirement in 1999. As a senior professor he continued his work at the observatory at Kvistaberg until the spring of 2006, when he returned to Uppsala together with his wife Silvi. Oja died on 18 November 2024, at the age of 89. 5080 Oja, provisional designation , is a stony Florian asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 8 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 2 March 1976, by astronomer Claes-Ingvar Lagerkvist at the Kvistaberg Station of the Uppsala Observatory in Sweden. In 1992, it was named after Estonian–Swedish astronomer Tarmo Oja. The S-type asteroid has a rotation period of 7.222 hours. Orbit and classification ''Oja'' is a member of the Flora family (), a giant asteroid family and the largest family of stony asteroids in the main belt. It orbits the Sun in the inner main belt at a distance of 2.0–2.5 AU once every 3 years and 4 months (1,226 days; semi-major axis of 2.24 AU). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.12 and an inclination of 5 ° with respect to the ecliptic. Lennart Meri
Lennart Georg Meri (; 29 March 1929 – 14 March 2006) was an Estonian writer, film director, and statesman. He was the country's foreign minister from 1990 to 1992 and President of Estonia from 1992 to 2001. Early life Meri was born in Tallinn, a son of the Estonian diplomat and later Shakespeare translator Georg Meri, and Estonian Swedish mother Alice-Brigitta Engmann. With his family, Lennart left Estonia at an early age and studied abroad, in nine different schools and in four different languages. His warmest memories were from his school years in Lycée Janson de Sailly in Paris.
