Tapton House
Tapton House, in Tapton, Derbyshire, England, was once the home of engineer George Stephenson, who built the first public railway line in the world to use steam locomotives. Tapton has been a gentleman's residence, a ladies' boarding school and a co-educational school. Tapton House grounds are now open for free use by the general public of Chesterfield to walk around and visit the Tapton Gardens. The grounds are also shared with the Tapton Park Innovation Centre. The House itself is now rented out as offices by Chesterfield Borough Council, and is a Grade II* listed building. History Tapton House was constructed in the late 18th century by the Wilkinson family of bankers, who also helped fund the construction of the Chesterfield Canal. Tapton School
Tapton School is a secondary school with academy status located in Crosspool, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. It is sited next to another secondary, King Edward VII School in Sheffield, and near to Lydgate Junior School in Crosspool, Lydgate Infant School in Sheffield and Notre Dame Catholic High School in Sheffield. Tapton School has approximately 1,650 pupils, aged between 11 and 18 years old. Tapton officially opened in 1960, but in 2000 the school was rebuilt under the Private Finance Initiative. Students and faculties officially moved to the new building in September 2001. History Tapton Secondary School opened in 1960 with 660 pupils. The pupils came from three local schools who lost their senior school to provide the pupils. These three schools, Springfield County, Nethergreen, and Crookes Endowed, became Junior schools. Tapton Hall
Tapton Hall is a Grade II listed building situated on Shore Lane in the Crosspool area of Sheffield, England. History Tapton Hall was built in 1855, on the site of an earlier building known as Tapton Grove, recorded on the 1853 town plan of Sheffield. The date of the construction of Tapton Grove is unknown but it is known that Mary Shore (thus Shore Lane) lived in the house until her death in 1853 at the age of 96. Mrs Shore was the grandmother of Florence Nightingale and the young Florence often stayed at the house. Upon the death of Mrs Shore, the house was bought by Robert B. Mitchell who, within two years, sold the house to the Sheffield steel magnate Edward Vickers. Vickers’ first action was to demolish Tapton Grove and erect Tapton Hall in its place. He used the architects Flockton & Son and the house was built in the Classical style with Italianate features. In 1867, the house was bought by George Wilson of the family of snuff manufacturers. Tapton, Derbyshire
Tapton is a suburb of Chesterfield, in the county of Derbyshire, England. It is located along the Brimington Road B6543, between Chesterfield town centre, and Brimington (where the population is included in the Brimington South Ward). It became a suburb of Chesterfield in the 1920s. The buildings along Brimington road, which runs through the centre of Tapton, are testament to this fact. Consisting of semi-detached houses in a style typical of the 20s and 30s. Broomhill and Sharrow Vale — which includes the districts of Broomhill, Broomhall, Crookesmoor, Endcliffe, Sharrow Vale and Tapton Hill — is one of the 28 electoral wards in City of Sheffield, England. The ward was created following the 2015 local government boundary review out of parts of the old Broomhill, Central and Nether Edge wards. It is located in the western part of the city. The population of the Broomhill ward in 2011 was 16,966 people in 5,708 households, covering an area of 2.7 km2.
