Tapi River, Surat Thani
The Tapi (or Tapee) river (, , ) is the longest river in southern Thailand. The river originates at Khao Luang mountain in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and empties into the Gulf of Thailand at Bandon Bay near the town of Bandon. It has a length of . The river drains an area of and in 1997 had a yearly discharge of or per year. The Phum Duang River (or Khiri Rat River), which drains another west of the Tapi watershed, joins the estuary west of Surat Thani in the Phunphin district. The river was named on 29 July 1915, after the river Tapi in Surat, India, shortly after the town of Surat Thani was named after the town of Surat in Gujarat, India. Khao Luang
Khao Luang (, ) is the tallest mountain in southern Thailand. It is in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Geography The Khao Luang mountain is the highest summit of a massif of several hills with steep slopes. It is part of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Range, a subrange of the Tenasserim Hills. Geologically this mountain formation consists of a granite core under loose soils. On steep slopes, the soil covering the mountains can cause landslides when saturated with water. Some of the forests of the area were felled to give way to rubber plantations. Khao Luang National Park Khao Luang National Park is named after Khao Luang mountain. The park is mountainous with many tall peaks along its range. Nong Thung Thong () is a swamp on the east bank of the Tapi River in Khian Sa District, Surat Thani Province, southern Thailand. Amphoe Khian Sa
Khian Sa (, ) is a district (''amphoe'') in Surat Thani province, Thailand. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Khiri Rat Nikhom, Phunphin, Ban Na Doem, Ban Na San, Wiang Sa, Phrasaeng and Phanom. Khian Sa is about 60 kilometres from Surat Thani. Geography The district is in the Khian Sa basin, which is crossed by the Tapi River, which also forms part of the eastern boundary of the district. Ko Lamphu
Ko Lamphu (เกาะลำพู) is a river island on the Tapi River in Thailand. It is located near Surat Thani's city centre, about from the river's mouth. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge near the city pillar shrine. Ko Lamphu is mostly flat and long. There is a small park on the island, mainly used for picnics and sports. Food stalls are often set up at various spots on the island, serving the visitors with snacks and food. Koh Lamphu offers a view of Surat Thani's skyline with its promenade by the riverfront. Tapti River
The Tapti River (or Tapi) is a river in central India located to the south of the Narmada river that flows westwards before draining into the Arabian Sea. The river has a length of around and flows through the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. It flows through the city of Surat, in Gujarat, and is crossed by the Magdalla, ONGC Bridge. On 7 August 1968, before the construction of the Ukai Dam to bring its waters under control and provide hydroelectric power, the Tapti River overflowed its banks during heavy rains in the monsoon season. More than 1,000 people drowned in the flood, and the city of Surat was submerged beneath 10 feet of water for several days. After the floodwaters receded, at least 1,000 more people died in Gujarat during a cholera epidemic from the contamination of the drinking water. Nakhon Si Thammarat (, ; from ) is a city municipality (''thesaban nakhon'') located in Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat, the capital of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is situated in the South of Thailand. It is about south of Bangkok, on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula.
