Taoyuan Main Public Library
Taoyuan Main Public Library () is the central library of Taoyuan, Taiwan. It is located on Nanping Road, Taoyuan District, and it is a part of Taoyuan Zhongzheng Arts and Cultural Business District. The main library was estimated to be completed by the end of 2021, and it began trial operation on December 17, 2022. It is the largest local public library and the fourth largest public library in Taiwan by total area, after National Central Library, National Taiwan Library and National Library of Public Information. Architecture Old building The former building of Taoyuan Main Public Library was located in the Department of Cultural Affairs building of Taoyuan City Government. Taoyuan District () is a District (Taiwan), district of Taoyuan City in northwestern Taiwan. The National Taiwan Library () is a library in Zhonghe District, New Taipei, Taiwan. It is the oldest public library in Taiwan. Founded in 1914, the library is home to a large collection of documents concerning the history, culture, politics and geography of Taiwan. History The library was founded in 1914 during the Japanese colonial period as the on the order of governor Sakuma Samata. The library's first permanent home on Bo'ai Road (博愛路) in Taipei was destroyed in an Allied bombing raid during World War II. After the Nationalists took over control of the island following Japan's defeat in World War II, the library was renamed the Taiwan Provincial Library () and moved to temporary accommodation.
