Tanjungpura Kingdom
Tanjungpura Kingdom or Tanjompura was the name of an ancient 8th century kingdom that was located along the southwestern coast of Borneo Island, Borneo facing the Java Sea, a region that today corresponds to the Ketapang Regency of West Kalimantan province of Indonesia. The kingdom experienced several moves of the royal capital, first located in Negeri Baru (current village name) Ketapang Regency, then moved to Sukadana (currently the capital of North Kayong Regency), since Panembahan Sorgi (Giri Kesuma) embraced Islam. The Kingdom of Tanjungpura is proof that the civilisation of Tanah Kayong was quite advanced in the past. Tanjungpura was once a province of the Singhasari, Singasari Kingdom as Bakulapura. The name "bakula" comes from Sanskrit which means a Mimusops elengi, tanjung plant (''Mimusops elengi''), so that after being elongated it became Tanjungpura. Ketapang
Ketapang, or ''Tau-pang'' in Teochew, is the administrative capital of Ketapang Regency (''Kabupaten Ketapang''), one of the regencies of West Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo in Indonesia. Ketapang town is located at and is a town on the delta of the Pawan River. Ketapang is served by the Rahadi Oesman Airport. History Ketapang is named from the local Malay name for ketapang tree (''Terminalia catappa''). In 1936, Ketapang Regency became one of the Afdeling (district in Dutch) in Keresidenan Kalimantan Barat (Residentis Western Afdeling van Borneo). In 1956, Ketapang Regency became an autonomous regency in West Kalimantan province, and led by a regent (bupati).
