Tang Dynasty (band)
Tang Dynasty () is a Chinese rock music, rock band formed in 1989. They are often credited as being the first Chinese heavy metal band and the first folk metal band of Asian style as well. Biography Singer and rhythm guitarist Ding Wu, bassist Zhang Ju (musician), Zhang Ju, and Chinese-American guitarist Kaiser Kuo co-founded Tang Dynasty in early 1989. Kuo left shortly after to return to the United States, with Liu Yijun (guitarist), Liu "Lao Wu" Yijun took his place. According to Kaiser, went on to become China's first "guitar hero." In 1990 the band participated in the Chinese modern rock concert, where they performed early versions of two of their eventual songs. In 1991, the band released its metal/rock version of "The Internationale" in Chinese. Tang Dynasty rose to fame with their Tang Dynasty (album), eponymous debut album, released in December 1992. ''Youxia'' () was a type of ancient Chinese warrior folk hero celebrated in classical Chinese poetry and fictional literature. It literally means "wandering vigilante", but is commonly translated as " knight-errant" or less commonly as "cavalier", "adventurer", "soldier of fortune" or "underworld stalwart". ''Romantic Knight'' (), alternatively translated as ''Knight of Romantic'', is the third album by Chinese heavy metal band Tang Dynasty, released June 13, 2008 on Jingwen Records. It is the only Tang Dynasty album to feature a five-piece lineup. Background ''Romantic Knight'' was released almost a full decade after Tang Dynasty's last album, ''Epic''. The group underwent several lineup changes, beginning with the departure of guitarist Kaiser Kuo in May 1999. Kuo was briefly replaced by Iron Kite frontman Yu Yang, who was in turn replaced by Chen Lei in October 2000. At the beginning of 2002, Liu Yijun, lead guitarist on the band's 1992 debut album, rejoined the band. ''Epic'' () is the second album by seminal Chinese metal band Tang Dynasty, released on December 20, 1998, on Jingwen Records. It is the band's only album to feature founding guitarist Kaiser Kuo, a Chinese-American responsible for shaping the band's early direction. Dou Wei
Dou Wei (born October 14, 1969) is a Chinese musician, singer-songwriter, composer and music producer. He is a representative figure in Chinese rock music. Alongside rock singers He Yong and Zhang Chu, they were collectively known as the "Prominent Three of Moyan Record Label" in the 1990s. Music Dou Wei is a multi-instrumentalist and produces music across many genres. He first came to prominence as a member of the hard rock group Black Panther (Hei Bao, 黑豹). In the album '' Sunny Days'' and '' Mountain River'', Dou Wei explored new frontiers in electronic and ambient music. Cobra (traditional Chinese: 眼鏡蛇樂隊; simplified Chinese: 眼镜蛇乐队; pinyin: ''Yǎnjìngshé yuèduì'') was an all-female rock band from Beijing, China. The band formed in 1989, becoming the first all-female rock band in mainland China. With only one album out, they disbanded in the late 1990s.
