Tampa Bay Executive Airport
The Tampa Bay Executive Airport was a private airport located on State Road 54 in the town of Odessa, Florida. It was owned and subsequently sold by Dr. James P. Gills. The airport was permanently closed on October 1, 2004, after which the hangars and other buildings were removed from the airpark. The runway remained as of March 2007, marked with several of the standard FAA Xs. Most of it has been cleared in favor of new construction, with about 500 feet remaining on the east end. An industrial park has been slated for construction on the site. As of 2017, the last remaining portion of the runway was removed. Most of the businesses that were based at Tampa Bay Executive have been relocated to other airports in the region. Tampa Bay, Florida
Tampa Bay is a large natural harbor and shallow estuary connected to the Gulf of Mexico on the west-central coast of Florida, comprising Hillsborough Bay, McKay Bay, Old Tampa Bay, Middle Tampa Bay, and Lower Tampa Bay. The largest freshwater inflow into the bay is the Hillsborough River (Florida), Hillsborough River, which flows into Hillsborough Bay in downtown Tampa. Many other smaller rivers and streams also flow into Tampa Bay, resulting in a large Drainage basin, watershed area. The shores of Tampa Bay were home to the Weeden Island Culture and then the Safety Harbor culture for thousands of years. These cultures relied heavily on Tampa Bay for food, and the waters were rich enough that they were one of the few Native American cultures that did not have to farm. Odessa is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,173 at the United States Census, 2000, 2000 census and more than doubled to 7,267 in 2010 United States Census, 2010. State Road 54 (SR 54) is located in the Tampa Bay Area, north of Tampa, Florida, Tampa itself, and runs from U.S. Route 19 (Florida), US 19 in Elfers, FL, Elfers in the west to U.S. Route 301 (Florida), US 301 in Zephyrhills, Florida, Zephyrhills, in the east. Zephyrhills Municipal Airport
Zephyrhills Municipal Airport is a public use airport in Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is owned by the City of Zephyrhills and located one nautical mile (2 km) southeast of its central business district. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. History Opened in January 1942, the airport was used by the United States Army Air Forces, specifically the Army Air Forces School of Applied Tactics (AAFSAT) tactical combat simulation school headquartered at Orlando Army Air Base.
