Talmadge is a neighborhood of the mid-city region of San Diego, California. Its borders are defined differently by various planning agencies, but typically include Fairmount Avenue to the west, Montezuma Road to the north, Collwood Boulevard or 51st Street to the east, and Monroe Avenue or El Cajon Boulevard to the South. Originally called Talmadge Park, the community was developed by the Southern California Realty Association, which was financed by a number of Hollywood figures. One of these was producer Joseph M. Schenck, and the development was named for his wife, actress Norma Talmadge, and her sisters Constance and Natalie. The neighborhood has streets named for each sister. The Talmadge Memorial Bridge is a bridge in the United States spanning the Savannah River between downtown Savannah, Georgia, and Hutchinson Island. It carries US 17/ SR 404 Spur. The original cantilever bridge was built in 1953; a replacement bridge was completed in 1991, and named the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. History The original Talmadge bridge was a cantilever truss bridge built in 1953. It later became functionally obsolete. The bridge eventually became a danger for large ships entering the Port of Savannah, home to the largest single ocean container terminal on the U.S. eastern seaboard, and the nation's fourth-busiest seaport. The Talmadge is a historic brick residential building in Los Angeles, California and which bears the name of silent film actress Norma Talmadge. History A house owned by Earle C. Anthony, built in 1909, was moved to Beverly Hills, California for the 1923 construction of this building. Upon its completion in 1924, it was owned by movie studio executive Joseph M. Schenck and his wife, silent actress Norma Talmadge, who was its namesake. It was designed in the style by William and Alexander Curlett & Claud Beelman.
