Tallinn Chamber Orchestra
Tallinn Chamber Orchestra (TCO, ) is a chamber orchestra located in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. The orchestra was established in 1993 by the conductor Tõnu Kaljuste. The orchestra's music is mainly distributed by ECM Records, but also through other labels. The orchestra has performed in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Japan, United States, and around Europe. They have performed at many music festivals, including the Bremen Music Festival, Budapest Autumn Festival, Torino Settembre Musical, and Tuusulanjärvi Festival. During 2013–2019, the chief conductor of the orchestra was Risto Joost. From 2019, the chief conductor has again been Tõnu Kaljuste. Conductors who have worked with the orchestra include, internationally, Jaakko Kuusisto, Daniel Raiskin, John Storgårds, Richard Tognetti, Terje Tønnesen, and Valentin Zhuk. Chamber Orchestra
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of Musical instrument, instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a Great chamber, palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers). However, by convention, it usually does not include solo instrument performances. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends". Risto Joost
Risto Joost (born 22 June 1980) is an Estonian Conducting, conductor and operatic countertenor. Life Born in Tallinn, Joost has been intensively involved with music since the age of six. He attended the special school for music in Tallinn. From 1986 to 1998 he studied choir conducting at the Tallinn Academy of Music with Anneli Mäeots and from 1998 to 2002 at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Conducting with Kuno Areng, Jüri Alperten and Paul Mägi as well as singing with Uku Joller and Nadja Kurem. In 2002 and 2003 he studied choral conducting with Erwin Ortner and conducting with Leopold Hager at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Arvo Volmer
Arvo Volmer (born November 4, 1962, in Tallinn) is an Estonian conducting, conductor. Volmer was principal conductor of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 2001. From 2004 to 2013 he was Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and in 2014 was appointed Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor. The ''Adelaide Review'' wrote that Volmer's tenure as Chief Conductor saw the orchestra "improve out of all proportion and enter an unprecedented period of ascendancy". From 2004 to 2012, Volmer combined his Adelaide duties with the posts of music director and principal conductor of the Estonian National Opera in Tallinn. Andres Mustonen
Andres Mustonen (born 1 September 1953) is an Estonian conductor and violinist. Biography Mustonen was born in Tallinn on 1 September 1953. He graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 1972 and five years later both he and Endel Lippus graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory. Later on, he studied in Austria and the Netherlands and then became a music specialist in his native Estonia and overseas. When he became a conductor he played in such orchestras as Riga's chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga and Moscow-based Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra and Russian National Orchestra. Paul Mägi
Paul Mägi (born 13 October 1953) is an Estonian conductor in concert and opera and is also an academic teacher and violinist. He has commissioned works for the Estonian National Opera. Life and music Born in Tallinn (then Soviet Union), Mägi achieved his Abitur at the 42nd secondary school in Tallinn, today's Deutsches Gymnasium Tallinn (''Tallinna Saksa Gümnaasium''), in the district of Mustamäe. He graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 1972, where he specialised in violin with Endel Lippus and in trumpet with Tõnu Tarum. Kristjan Järvi
Kristjan Järvi (, alternate (U.S.) spelling: Kristian Järvi) (born 13 June 1972) is an Estonian conductor, composer and producer. Born in Tallinn, Estonia, he is the younger son of the conductor Neeme Järvi and brother of conductor Paavo Järvi and flutist Maarika Järvi. Early life When Järvi was age 7, his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. He became an American citizen in 1985. He grew up in New York City. Terje Tønnesen (born 27 February 1955 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian classical violinist. His first marriage, from 1979 to 1986, was to the pianist Reidun Askeland (born 1957).
