Talisay, officially the Municipality of Talisay (), is a municipality in the province of Batangas, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 46,238 people. Talisay is derived from a tree of the same name (''Terminalia catappa'') where the bells of a Catholic parish church were hung. Such church was then a temporary building located at the center of the then barrio. History Talisay traces its roots to a barrio that was once part of Tanauan during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. In 1754, it was annexed to Taal following the transfer of Tanauan's seat to its present-day barangay Sala as a result of the Taal Volcano eruption that year. Talisay was later formed as a separate ''municipio'' on February 10, 1869. However, on March 28, 1903, during the American occupation, it was returned to Tanauan but later separated on July 23, 1906 to regain its independent status. Talisay, officially the Municipality of Talisay (), is a municipality in the province of Camarines Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 27,244 people. The fertile soil, topography (averaging about above sea-level) and suitable climate are the main reasons why agriculture is the economic backbone of the town. Rice and coconut farming are the major agricultural activities for most of the barangays and fishing is the second thriving industry particularly in the coastal barangays. Talisay has programs and facilities for education. Talisay, officially the City of Talisay (; ), is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city in the Provinces of the Philippines, province of Negros Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 108,909 people. Talisay is often confused with another Visayas city also named Talisay, Cebu, Talisay, which is a component city in the neighboring province of Cebu. History Precolonial Period Indigenous people settled in the cogon-lined lowlands of northwest Negros long before Spanish conquest. The settlement was called Minuluan, but was also known as Talisay by the province and neighboring communities in Panay.
