''Tales from the Netherlands'' is a double live album by the Canadian progressive rock band Mystery. Overview The album was recorded during the tour supporting the album ''The World is a Game'' at Cultuurpodium Boerderij in Zoetermeer, Netherlands on May 10, 2013 and was the band's first European concert. The recording is made up of songs from the three albums released during Benoît David's time in the band: ''Beneath the Veil of Winter's Face'', ''One Among the Living'' and ''The World is a Game''. It is the last album David recorded with the band before leaving in autumn 2013. Cover art The cover art is the creation of Polish photographer Leszek Bujnowski, who also created the cover for ''The World is a Game'' and ''Delusion Rain'', and is entitled ''Lost''. Mystery (band)
Mystery (often stylized as MYSTERY) is a Canadian rock band formed in 1986 by multi-instrumentalist Michel St-Père. The band released their eponymous debut EP in 1992 with Raymond and Gary Savoie on lead vocals, followed by their first album '' Theatre of the Mind'' in 1996 and then ''Destiny?'' in 1998, both with Gary on lead vocals. In 2007 the band released their third album ''Beneath the Veil of Winter's Face'' with singer Benoît David who would record two more studio albums with the band: ''One Among the Living'' in 2010 and ''The World is a Game'' in 2012. In 2015 the band released their sixth album and first with current singer Jean Pageau ''Delusion Rain'', and released their seventh album ''Lies and Butterflies'' on July 14, 2018 . Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. Unicorn Digital is an independent Canadian record label founded in 1996 by Michel St-Père. The label was originally created to promote his band Mystery, however since its founding the label has expanded to include many more artists. Live Album
An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl long-playing (LP) records played at rpm. The World Is A Game
''The World is a Game'' is the fifth studio album by the Canadian rock band Mystery, which by this point consisted of a duo of Michel St-Père and Benoît David. It is the last original release with David before his departure the following year. Production Background Long time drummer Steve Gagné left the band in 2011, causing Mystery founder Michel St-Père to find a new drummer. While Nick D'Virgilio was working with Cirque du Soleil in Canada, St-Père contacted him about recording the drum tracks for the album as a session musician, to which he agreed. Antoine Fafard, who had worked previously with Mystery as a session musician, recorded the bass tracks and additional acoustic guitars. Marilène Provencher-Leduc played all of the flutes on the album. David Myers of The Musical Box was going to play keyboards on the album, but ultimately did not. Zoetermeer () is a city in the Western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. A small village until the late 1960s, it had 6,392 inhabitants in 1950. By 2013 this had grown to 123,328, making it the third largest population centre in the province of South Holland, after Rotterdam and The Hague. While now a city in its own right, Zoetermeer started out as a suburb of The Hague and is still a part of the Greater The Hague urban area; it is about 12 km east of The Hague, 15 km north of Rotterdam and 12 km south of Leiden. Benoît David
Benoît Gérard Guy David (; born 19 April 1966) is a Canadian singer best known as the lead vocalist in the English progressive rock band Yes from 2008 to 2012, replacing long-time vocalist and founding member Jon Anderson. He was also lead singer of the band Mystery from 1999 to 2013, and a Yes tribute band called Close to the Edge. Early life David was born in Montreal, Quebec on 19 April 1966. He was raised speaking French, and worked in Montreal as a salesperson. He began singing in rock bands at the age of fifteen. Musical career David joined the Yes tribute band Close to the Edge in 1994, after a friend compared his voice to then-Yes singer Jon Anderson’s. David joined Mystery, a band led by Michel St-Père, as the lead singer in 1999. ''Beneath the Veil of Winter's Face'' is the third studio album by the Canadian rock band Mystery. It is the first Mystery album to feature Benoît David on lead vocals, and the first without former lead vocalist Gary Savoie. The band's lineup remained unchanged aside from this. Originally to be recorded soon after ''Destiny?'', it was released in 2007 due to Michel St-Père shifting his focus to his record label. This was the last album to feature bassist Patrick Bourque, who died shortly after the album's release. Prior to recording this album Patrick Bourque had been replaced by François Fournier, Benoît Dupuis rejoined the band as keyboardist after a 12-year absence, and Dean Baldwin joined as a second guitarist. ''Delusion Rain'' is the sixth studio album by the Canadian rock band Mystery, released in November 2015 on Unicorn Digital. The album features a new studio lineup for the band, with guitarist and keyboardist Michel St-Père, keyboardist Benoît Dupuis, bassist François Fournier, guitarist Sylvain Moineau, drummer Jean-Sébastien Goyette, and singer Jean Pageau. The album also features two guest musicians: Antoine Michaud on guitars who played guitars for Mystery during their 2014 tour and subsequently became their keyboardist in 2016, and Sylvain Descoteaux who is a member of Huis along with St-Père. Most of the songs on the album were new compositions, with the exception of "The Willow Tree" and "Wall Street King", which originate from around the time of '' Theatre of the Mind''.
