Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Rooted in 1950s rock and roll and 1960s garage rock, punk bands rejected the corporate nature of mainstream 1970s rock music. GFK (band)
GFK (Government Fury Kills) were a Canadian hardcore heavy metal band, based in Quebec City. Their songs have lyrics with political messages. History GFK formed in 1996. In 2000, their first album, ''The Social Responsibility Theory'' was released on their own New Horizon Records label. This was followed in 2002 by ''In Defence of Politics'', also on New Horizon, with lyrics in English, French and German. In 2006, GFK toured across Canada, performing about 70 concerts. That year bassist Claude Gallant joined the band, replacing Sonny Létourneau. In 2006, GFK released a five-song EP entitled ''Thanatopolicy''. The band recorded a split album with I Hate Sally on Underground Operations in 2007. Also in 2007 the band performed in Toronto with Propagandhi. Rhythm Activism
Rhythm Activism was a Canadian, Montreal-based musical collective, revolving around the core duo of Sylvain Côté and Norman Nawrocki. The group, formed in 1985 as a poetry and music ensemble, evolved into performing a politically radical brand of "rock 'n roll cabaret" and incorporating elements of post-punk and folk into their music. They featured on 36 releases. On several occasions, the band recorded and released albums on just a few days' notice, to support political activist campaigns such as the Oka Crisis of 1990 and a Quebec students' strike. Most of their material was released on their own Les Pages Noires label, although their 15th and final album ''Jesus Was Gay'' was distributed on G7 Welcoming Committee Records. Randy is a Swedish punk rock band from Hortlax, Sweden, formed in 1992. While never achieving mainstream success, Randy have developed a cult following in the punk community over the years and were particularly successful in their homeland. They were particularly well-known for writing catchy songs with politically conscious messages, often broaching topics like income inequality, socialism, Revolutionary socialism, working-class revolutions throughout European history, and Karl Marx and Marxism. Painted Thin was a Canadian hardcore punk band, formed in Winnipeg, and active from 1993 to 1999. The core of the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Stephen Carroll and bassist and vocalist Paul Furgale, with a variety of guest musicians, including James Ash, Dan McCafferty and Jason Tait, on individual recordings. Mico (band)
Mico is a Canadian former punk band from Banff, Alberta, Canada History Formed in the late 1990s by John Stewart (of Red Fisher and Black Halos fame), Mico originally existed as a 3-piece consisting of Todd Lapp (bass, and body), Troy "BDF" Fleischhaker (drums) and John Stewart (guitar, vocals). All three founding members were at the time living in Banff, Alberta, Canada and formed the band as a way to get free beer at the local establishments around the small resort town. Gregory Hector Macpherson (born May 3, 1950) is a Democratic politician in the US state of Oregon. From 2003 to 2009, he served as the state representative from District 38, which includes most of Lake Oswego and portions of southwestern Portland. Early life Macpherson was born in Corvallis, Oregon, and grew up in rural Linn County. His paternal grandfather, Hector Macpherson, Sr., was elected in 1926, 1928, and 1938 as a progressive Republican member the Oregon Legislative Assembly. During his political career his grandfather helped found the Oregon Department of Education. His father, Hector Jr., served in the Oregon State Senate and was a cosponsor of the 1973 law that established Oregon's land-use planning system.
