Takalani Sesame
''Takalani Sesame'' ("be happy Sesame" in Venda) is the South African co-production of the children's television program ''Sesame Street'', co-produced by Sesame Workshop and South African partners. The series debuted in 2000 and has been airing for the past 25 years. Content According to Sesame Workshop, ''Takalani Sesame'' is a "uniquely South African interpretation of the Sesame model, engaging children and their parents and promoting basic school readiness, literacy, numeracy, and health and hygiene." Joan Ganz Cooney
Joan Ganz Cooney (born Joan Ganz; November 30, 1929) is an American television writer and producer. She is one of the founders of Sesame Workshop (formerly ''Children's Television Workshop'' or CTW), the organization famous for the creation of the children's television show ''Sesame Street'', which was co-created by her. Cooney grew up in Phoenix and earned a Bachelor of Arts in education from the University of Arizona in 1951. After working for the State Department in Washington, D.C., and as a journalist in Phoenix, she worked as a publicist for television and production companies in New York City. In 1961, she became interested in working for educational television, and became a documentary producer for New York's first educational TV station WNET (Channel 13). Holly Wasserfall (born 27 December 1996), professionally known as Holly Rey, is a South African singer and songwriter. Her musical career began at the age of 14, signing her first publishing deal with Sony. She rose to prominence after releasing her single "Deeper" in 2018, which won Record of the Year. Desmond Tutu
Desmond Mpilo Tutu (7 October 193126 December 2021) was a South African Anglican bishop and theologian, known for his work as an anti-apartheid and human rights activist. He was Bishop of Johannesburg from 1985 to 1986 and then Archbishop of Cape Town from 1986 to 1996, in both cases being the first Black African to hold the position. Grover
Grover is a blue Muppet character on the PBS/HBO children's television show ''Sesame Street''. Self-described as lovable, cute, and furry, he is a blue monster who rarely uses contractions when he speaks or sings. Grover was originally performed by Frank Oz from his earliest appearances. ''Ahlan Simsim'' () is an Arabic language co-production of ''Sesame Street'' that premiered on 2 February 2020, on MBC 3. The show is the spiritual successor to Iftah Ya Simsim, a Kuwaiti production that ran from 1979 to 1990, and aired in multiple Arabic-speaking countries. The show also shares a name and its characters with an initiative to provide education for displaced Syrian children. Production The series was first announced in 2016. Kami (Takalani Sesame)
Kami is a character on ''Takalani Sesame'' and '' Sesame Square'', the respective South African and Nigerian versions of the children's television program ''Sesame Street''. In 2002, Sesame Workshop announced that an HIV-positive character would be introduced to ''Takalani Sesame'', the U.S. Agency for International Development–funded South African version of the show. This idea was considered crucial for an area where AIDS is an epidemic. The character's name, Kami, is derived from ''Kamogelo'', which means acceptance or 'a welcoming' in Setswana. Tswana, also known by its Endonym and exonym, native name Setswana, is a Bantu language indigenous to Southern Africa and spoken by about 8.2 million people.
