Taiwan Textile Research Institute
The Taiwan Textile Research Institute is a government funded research institute in Taiwan (ROC) which supports the textile industry. History TTRI was founded in 1959. After the normalization of relations with the People’s Republic of China much of Taiwan’s textile industry wither shifted production or went out of business. According to TTRI data in 1997 there were 7,752 textile companies in Taiwan, but by 2010 there were only 4,299. In the 21st century the institute has supported the shift of Taiwan’s textile industry towards technical textiles, a global market which Taiwan had captured 70% of by 2018. The institute has also supported the development of sustainable textiles. In 2019 TTRI employed 300 professionals, two thirds of whom hold advanced degrees. The Ship Ocean Industries Research and Development Center (SOIC; ) is a Taiwanese government owned naval architecture and maritime research institute founded in 1976. Overview The prime mission of SOIC is to support Taiwan’s maritime industry. To further this mission it provides marine engineering planning, ship and ocean platform design, technical services, and knowledge integration services to private and public organizations and companies. SOIC has designed vessels for shipping giants, local industry, the Republic of China Navy, and the Coast Guard Administration. Automotive Research & Testing Center
The Automotive Research & Testing Center (ARTC; ) is a government funded non-profit automotive research facility located in Lukang Township, Changhua County, Taiwan. History ARTC was founded in 1990 under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. ARTC is one of the founding members of Taiwan Automotive Research Consortium (TARC) which was established in mid-2005. Peter Tsai
Peter Tsai (Chinese: 蔡秉燚; born February 6, 1952) is a Taiwanese-American inventor and material scientist who is best known for inventing and patenting the N95 mask filter. He is an expert in the field of nonwoven fabric. Tsai was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennessee, but ended his retirement during the COVID-19 pandemic to research N95 mask sterilization. Early life and education Tsai grew up on his family's farm in the Qingshui District of Taichung, Taiwan and graduated from Taichung Municipal Cingshuei Senior High School.
