Taipei West District Gateway Project
The Taipei West District Gateway Project ( zh, 西區門戶計畫) is a comprehensive urban renewal initiative launched by the Taipei City Government in 2014. Centred around Taipei Main Station, the project aims to revitalise the city's western core by integrating transportation infrastructure, restoring historical landmarks, and promoting economic development. This initiative seeks to balance the city's development, which had previously been concentrated in the eastern districts, e.g Daan District, Taipei, Da'an and Xinyi District, Taipei, Xinyi. Overview The project's boundaries are defined by Civic Boulevard and Zhengzhou Road to the north, List of streets named after Sun Yat-sen, Zhongshan North Road to the east, Zhongxiao Road, Zhongxiao West Road to the south, and Huanhe North Road to the west. West is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from east and is the direction in which the Sunset, Sun sets on the Earth. Etymology The word "west" is a Germanic languages, Germanic word passed into some Romance languages (''ouest'' in French, ''oest'' in Catalan, ''ovest'' in Italian, ''vest'' in Romanian, ''oeste'' in Spanish and Portuguese). As in other languages, the word formation stems from the fact that west is the direction of the setting sun in the evening: 'west' derives from the Indo-European root ''*wes'' reduced from ''*wes-pero'' 'evening, night', cognate with Ancient Greek ἕσπερος Hesperus, hesperos 'evening; evening star; western' and Latin vesper 'evening; west'.
