Taibach Rugby Football Club are a Welsh rugby union club based in Taibach of Port Talbot in Wales, UK. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is also a feeder club for the Ospreys. Taibach
Taibach or Tai-bach ( en, Little Houses) is a community and suburban district of Port Talbot, Wales. It is a settlement centered on the main A48 road, sandwiched between the river Ffrwdwyllt and Margam. Parts of Margam are within the community boundaries. History The "little houses" of Taibach sprang up at the beginning of the 19th century in the parish of Margam as homes for colliery and other industrial workers, some way away from the historic village centre of Margam. With the expansion of industrial activity in the parish, and, in particular, the foundation of the new port at Port Talbot, the whole area became a single conurbation, as it remains, and Taibach was subsumed within it. Amenities The stretch of the A48 road through the area is the main shopping street and is named Commercial Road in the area. Richard Hibbard
Richard Hibbard (born 13 December 1983) is a Wales international rugby player currently playing for the Dragons. Hibbard was born in Neath, Wales. He’s married with 3 children. A hooker, he started playing rugby at age grade levels at clubs in the town of Port Talbot, including Aberavon Quins RFC and Taibach RFC. A former pupil of Glan Afan Comprehensive School, he went on to play at senior level for Taibach, Aberavon RFC and Swansea before making his name at the Ospreys. He used to play rugby league for Aberavon Fighting Irish and made one appearance for Wales A in their 28–18 win over England A in Aberavon in 2003. Hibbard attained his first Wales cap against Argentina in June 2006. Hibbard missed the 2011 Rugby World Cup through injury. Gerwyn Williams
Gerwyn Williams (22 April 1924 – 10 February 2009) was a Welsh rugby union player, coach and author. Biography Williams was born in Glyncorrwg, Glamorgan, the son of Ephraim and Catherin (Hopkins) Williams. He attended Port Talbot County School and Loughborough College after serving in the Royal Navy during World War II. Rugby career Williams began playing rugby in grammar school, and won his first cap as a U-15 player with Wales against England. He continued at Loughborough, playing on the College XV. As a professional, Williams played fullback for Llanelli RFC and London Welsh, as well as on the Wales national rugby union team from 1950 to 1954. He won his first senior cap in the Triple Crown deciding match against Ireland in 1950. Walter Vickery
Walter Vickery (25 October 1909 - 7 April 2000) was an international rugby union back row who represented Wales and played club rugby for Aberavon. His father, George Vickery, also played for Aberavon and was also an international player, but he was capped for England. Personal history Vickery was born in Port Talbot, Wales in 1909. He had one daughter Rita, who had two children, Richard and Robert. Rugby career Vickery joined Aberavon in 1928, and in 1931 was part of the joint Aberavon / Neath team that faced the 1931 touring South African team. The Welsh club team was narrowly beaten when the South African's scored a late controversial try. Vickery would again face an international touring team in 1935, when another joint Aberavon / Neath team was chosen to play against the touring All Blacks. Billy Mainwaring
William Thomas Mainwaring (born Gwilym Thomas Mainwaring; 24 January 1941 – 1 April 2019) was a Welsh international second row rugby union player who played for Aberavon RFC. Rugby career Nurtured in his village team of Taibach RFC, Mainwaring was a regular member of the Aberavon RFC team before his first cap in 1966-7 season against Scotland at Murrayfield. He played in all of the Welsh games of that term. In the following season, he was one of four Aberavon RFC players who played against the touring All Blacks (the others being fellow second row Max Wiltshire, centre Ian Hall and debutant full-back Paul Wheeler). Trevor Lloyd (rugby Union)
Trevor Lloyd (5 September 1924 – 5 October 2015) was a international rugby union player. Lloyd hailed from Port Talbot, where he started playing club rugby with the Aberavon Quins RFC, he made his debut for Wales on 14 March 1953 versus Ireland and was selected for the 1955 British Lions tour to South Africa. He also played club rugby for Maesteg RFC, captaining the team for three seasons, and coached the senior club from 1956 to 1959. Daniel Jones (31 May 1875 - 1 January 1959) was a Welsh international rugby union scrum-half who played club rugby for Aberavon and international rugby for Wales.
