Tahoe Air
Tahoe Air was a United States airline founded by Mark Sando, who used Casino Express Airlines to fund their plane purchase. Tahoe Air offered jet flights directly out of South Lake Tahoe via the South Lake Tahoe Airport. Scheduled passenger service was planned to be operated with McDonnell Douglas MD-80 jetliners; however, before any orders for MD-80s were placed, operations began with a single Boeing 737-200 jet, registered N233TM and operated by parent company Casino Express. The lone aircraft was painted in the Tahoe Air livery. Tahoe Air made its first flight to Los Angeles (LAX) on June 25, 1999. On July 1, 1999, the airline started service to its second destination, San Jose, California (SJC). The carrier offered low fares in a two class cabin with inexpensive upgrades. However, by October 1999, the airline had ceased operations never having received any of the proposed MD-80 aircraft. South Lake Tahoe Airport
Lake Tahoe Airport is a public airport three miles southwest of South Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California. It covers and has one runway; it is sometimes called Tahoe Valley Airport. History The airport in the Sierra Nevada just south of Lake Tahoe opened in 1959 with a 5900-ft runway. Beginning in 1962 it had a few airline flights: the first were on Futura Airlines, an intrastate airline, and on Paradise Airlines, both flying Lockheed L-049 Constellations. Paradise ceased operations after a fatal accident in the mountains near Lake Tahoe and Pacific Air Lines arrived in 1964 with Fairchild F-27s. That summer, Lake Tahoe was a stop on an F-27 "milk run": flight 771 Reno-Lake Tahoe-Sacramento-San Francisco-San Jose-Fresno-Bakersfield-Los Angeles-San Diego. Avelo Airlines () is an ultra low-cost U.S. carrier headquartered in Houston, Texas. It previously operated charter flights as ''Casino Express Airlines'' and ''Xtra Airways'', before transitioning to scheduled operations and rebranding as Avelo Airlines on April 8, 2021.
