Tahnee Robinson
Tahnee Robinson (born February 2, 1988) is an American former professional basketball player now actively coaching in the NCAA Division I. She is the first enrolled Native American woman to be drafted into the WNBA being a member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe. She was also the first player to be drafted into the WNBA from the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR). Early life Tahnee Robinson was born February 2, 1988, in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, to Tim and Sara Robinson. Her mother is Pawnee and Shoshone and her father is Cheyenne and Sioux. She was raised on the Wind River Reservation in Fort Washakie, Wyoming with her two brothers. She is an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe. Women's National Basketball Association
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is an American professional basketball league. It is composed of twelve teams, all based in the United States. The league was founded on April 22, 1996, as the women's counterpart to the National Basketball Association (NBA), and league play started in 1997. The regular season is played from May to September, with the All Star game being played midway through the season in July (except in Olympic years) and the WNBA Finals at the end of September until the beginning of October. Five WNBA teams have direct NBA counterparts and normally play in the same arena. They play in the same arena as funding is sparse due to lack of spectators. Shoni Schimmel
Shoni Schimmel (born May 4, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. She is a former All-American college player at the University of Louisville and was selected with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Atlanta Dream. Early life and high school Schimmel, a 5'9" shooting guard, first received attention as a high school player in Oregon. Raised on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Mission, Oregon, she was the subject of a documentary by filmmaker Jonathan Hock called '' Off the Rez'', which chronicled her journey to earn an NCAA scholarship with her basketball ability. She transferred from Hermiston High School in eastern Oregon to the larger Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon to increase her chances of being recruited to a Division I school. Angel Goodrich
Angel Goodrich (born February 24, 1990) is an American former professional basketball player, who played for the Tulsa Shock and Seattle Storm in the WNBA. Background and family Goodrich was born in Glendale, Arizona to Jonathan and Fayth (Goodrichard) Lewis. Jonathan is African-American; Fayth is Native American (Cherokee). Goodrich herself is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. Goodrich has two siblings, an older brother Zach Goodrich, and a younger sister Nikki Lewis. Ryneldi Becenti
Ryneldi Becenti (born August 11, 1971) is a retired American professional basketball player. She became the first Native American to play in the WNBA when she played for the Phoenix Mercury in 1997. High school Becenti attended Window Rock High School in Fort Defiance, Arizona, and in 1989, Scottsdale Community College in Phoenix. She was the country's top junior college point guard in 1990–91, and left Scottsdale a two-time NJCAA All-American. College Becenti was an All-Pac 10 First Team selection in both her seasons at Arizona State University, and a two-time honorable mention All-America honoree.
