Tahkuna Peninsula
Tahkuna Peninsula ( et, Tahkuna poolsaar) is a peninsula in Hiiu County, Estonia. Five villages are on the peninsula—Tahkuna, Lehtma, Kodeste, Kauste and Meelste. Also located on the peninsula are Tahkuna Cape, Tahkuna Stone Labyrinth, Tahkuna Lighthouse, and Lehtma Harbor. Hiiu County
Hiiu County ( et, Hiiu maakond or ''Hiiumaa'') is one of 15 counties of Estonia, being the smallest county both in terms of area and population. It consists of Hiiumaa (German and sv, Dagö), the second largest island of Estonia, and several smaller islands near it. The county borders Lääne County to the east and Saare County to the south. Tahkuna Lighthouse
__NOTOC__ Tahkuna Lighthouse (Estonian: ''Tahkuna tuletorn'') is a lighthouse located in the Tahkuna Peninsula, Hiiu Parish, on the island of Hiiumaa, in Estonia. History The construction of the lighthouse began in 1873. The lighthouse has a metal structure, designed by British Alexander Gordon. The prefabricated structure of the lighthouse was made in France in 1873, and constructed in 1875, in the current location. The lighthouse has a height of 42.6 metres, and is the tallest of this type structure in Estonia. Since its construction the lighthouse has remained unchanged. Tahkuna Nature Reserve
Tahkuna Nature Reserve is a nature reserve situated on Hiiumaa in western Estonia, in Hiiu County. Tahkuna nature reserve has been created in order to protect areas of forest which have remained largely unaffected by human activity. The nature reserve also incorporates Estonia's largest single habitat of Taxus baccata, yew, dune forests and mires. A forest trail for visitors has been constructed in the nature reserve. The fauna is varied and home to several nesting birds, e.g. spotted crake and white-tailed eagle. The flora contains several species of orchids; Corallorhiza trifida and Goodyera repens are common.
