Tahira Syed
Tahira Syed (in Punjabi and ) (born 1958, Lahore) is a Pakistani ghazal and folk singer. Her repertoire includes folk songs in Urdu, Punjabi, Dogri and Pahari. Early life Tahira Syed was born in Lahore to a vocalist Malika Pukhraj and Shabbir Hussain, a Punjabi, government official and writer. Syed obtained her primary education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary where she passed her Senior Cambridge examinations. She graduated from Lahore College, then studied law at the Punjab University. After obtaining an LLB degree, she enrolled in a Masters Program in English at Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, but later dropped out of the college. Syed began singing, aged 12, to please her mother. After two years of rigorous classical music training by Akhtar Hussain, Syed was instructed in geet and ghazal by her mother. Tahira Akbar qizi Tahirova (, ; 7 November 1913 – 26 October 1991) was a Soviet politician and diplomat. She served as Foreign Minister of the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic from 1959 to 1983. Early life Tahirova was born on 7 November 1913 in Bayram-Ali (presently in Turkmenistan). Having graduated from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (then the ''Azerbaijan Industry Institute'') in 1935, she became the first Azerbaijani female professional obtaining a degree of higher education related to the oil industry. In 1940, she was appointed director of the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute. From 1942 on, she worked at the Central Committee of Azerbaijan Communist Party and was in charge of delivering timely oil supplies to Soviet Army fighting the enemy on the frontlines during World War II. Táhirih (Ṭāhira) (, "The Pure One," also called Qurrat al-ʿAyn ( "Solace/Consolation of the Eyes") are both titles of Fatimah Baraghani/Umm-i Salmih (1814 or 1817 – August 16–27, 1852), an influential poet, women's rights activist and theologian of the Bábism, Bábí faith in Iran.
