Tadej Golob
Tadej Golob (born 1967) is a Slovene mountaineer and writer. Golob was born in Maribor in 1967 and grew up in the small town of Lenart v Slovenskih goricah in northeastern Slovenia. He moved to Ljubljana to study journalism but never completed his studies. He worked as a contributor to various magazines, but is known in Slovenia chiefly as an alpine climber. In 2010 Golob won the Kresnik Award for best novel with his debut novel (Pigs' Legs). It is a witty story of an aspiring comics artist looking for inspiration, trying to make ends meet and coping on the margin with a non-existent career, his family and society. The title refers to the lead character's attempt to master the art of tattooing by practicing on pigs' legs. Maribor
Maribor ( , , ; also known by other #Name, historical names) is the List of cities and towns in Slovenia, second-largest city in Slovenia and the largest city of the traditional region of Styria (Slovenia), Lower Styria. It is the seat of the Urban Municipality of Maribor and the Drava Statistical Region, Drava statistical region. Maribor is also the economic, administrative, educational, and cultural centre of eastern Slovenia. Maribor was first mentioned as a castle in 1164, as a settlement in 1209, and as a city in 1254. Peter Čeferin
Peter Čeferin (born 28 June 1938) is a Slovenian attorney and the author of articles on issues related to the legal profession (specifically the position and profession of practicing attorneys). He is the father of Aleksander Čeferin, the current president of UEFA and FIFA council member. Early life and education Čeferin was born in 1938 in Ljubljana to Anica Čeferin (born Kačnik) and Emil Čeferin. His father was a lawyer and an expert in agricultural cooperative law and a professor the University of Ljubljana. Peter Vilfan
Peter Vilfan (born 29 June 1957) is a Slovenian former professional basketball player, sports journalist, commentator, and a politician. He resigned from the National Assembly due to DUI in 2014, and from the State Secretary position in 2019 amid tax evasion proceedings. As a basketball player, he was a member of the senior Yugoslavia national team, with which he won a gold medal at the 1978 FIBA World Championship, in Manila. Zoran Predin
Zoran Predin (born 16 June 1958) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter from Maribor. In the 1980s, he was the front man of the new wave rock band ''Lačni Franz''. He also writes music for film, television, and theatre. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, he went on several tours with the rock singers Pero Lovšin and Vlado Kreslin. Among others, they composed the anthem of the Slovenia national football team for the 2000 European Football Championship. He has also been active in public life. Davo Karničar
Davorin "Davo" Karničar (October 26, 1962 – September 16, 2019) was a Slovene alpinist and ski mountaineer. As an active mountain skier, Davo was a member of the Yugoslavian national mountain ski team between 1975 and 1982. An alpinist since 1980, he made an estimated 1,700 climbs and descents. He made his first summit of an eight-thousander in 1989 when he climbed Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, later summitting K2 in 1993. In 1995, he made his first ski descent from Annapurna in Nepal and, in 1996, he made a ski descent from Shishapangma in Tibet. When Davo was 38 years old he became the first person to ski down from the summit of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, on October 7, 2000. Kresnik Award
Kresnik is a literary award in Slovenia awarded each year for the best novel in Slovene language, Slovene of the previous year. It has been bestowed since 1991 at summer solstice by the national newspaper house Delo (newspaper), Delo. The awards ceremony is normally held on Rožnik (hill), Rožnik Hill above Ljubljana where the winner is invited to light a large bonfire. The winner also receives a financial award.
