TSN Skins Game
The TSN All-Star Curling Skins Game is an annual curling bonspiel hosted by The Sports Network. " Skins" curling had been developed as a way to make curling more interesting on TV during the time before the free guard zone rule was implemented. The bonspiel was held annually from 1986 to 2004 before being revived as the Casino Rama Curling Skins Game in 2007. In 2013, Dominion of Canada took over naming rights to the event, which also shifted into an all-star format featuring teams of top Canadian curling players, but the format reverted to the original format in 2015, when Pinty's acquired the naming rights to the event. In skins curling, teams compete for "skins" rather than points. A team can win a skin by stealing an end or scoring two or more points in an end while with the hammer. Casino Rama is a large casino, hotel, and entertainment complex located in the town of Rama, Ontario, on the Indian reserve, reserve land of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. It is jointly owned by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, with operation of the casino contracted to Gateway Casinos, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited. CCA Rankings
The Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) is a point system used by Curling Canada to rank men's and women's curling teams across Canada. They are determined through points earned in various curling bonspiels held worldwide throughout the season. CTRS points are the basis of the World Curling Tour's Order of Merit and are also used as criteria in identifying teams that qualify for the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. Beginning in 2018, the top two CTRS teams that do not otherwise qualify for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts or Montana's Brier will earn the right to compete in a play-in game for a wildcard berth in those tournaments. All-star Game
An all-star game is an exhibition game that showcases the best players (the "stars") of a sports league. The exhibition is between two teams organized solely for the event, usually representing the league's teams based on region or division, but sometimes dividing the players by an attribute such as nationality. Selection of the players may be done by a vote of the coaches and/or news media; in professional leagues, fans may vote on some or all of the roster. Curling Canada (formerly the Canadian Curling Association (CCA)) is a sanctioning body for the sport of curling in Canada. It is associated with more than a dozen provincial and territorial curling associations across the country, and organizes Canada's national championships in the sport. Curling On TSN
TSN's coverage of Curling consists of the Curling Canada, Continental Cup of Curling, the TSN Skins Game, the World Curling Championships, and Olympic Curling. Curling Canada TSN originally broadcast Curling Canada (known through February 2015 as the Canadian Curling Association, or CCA) events, including the opening rounds of the Montana's Brier, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts from 1984-2003. CBC Sports, who had previously shared rights with TSN, became the sole broadcaster of CCA tournaments in 2004. The CCA terminated their deal with the CBC after one season. Cheryl Bernard
Cheryl Bernard (born June 30, 1966) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. She represented Team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics as the team's skip, winning the silver medal in women's curling after falling to Sweden in the final. Her first major tournament win came at the 2009 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Edmonton, Alberta. She also represented Canada again at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang as the alternate for Rachel Homan's team. Career Early career Bernard was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta. David Murdoch
David Matthew Murdoch (born 17 April 1978) is a retired Scottish curler from Stirling. As the Scotland skip, he and his former team of Ewan MacDonald, Warwick Smith, Euan Byers and Peter Smith are the 2006 and 2009 World Curling Champions. Representing Great Britain, he has been skip at three Winter Olympics, Torino 2006, finishing fourth, Vancouver 2010, finishing fifth and Sochi 2014, where he won an Olympic silver medal. Randy Ferbey
Randy S. Ferbey (born May 30, 1959) is a Canadian retired curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Ferbey is a six-time Canadian champion and a four-time World Champion. He recently coached the Rachel Homan women's team. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Ferbey notably popularized the system of having the skip throw third rocks, when he skipped the team nicknamed "the Ferbey Four", a team that he won four Briers (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005) and narrowly missed winning the 2004 final after giving up an 8-4 lead to Mark Dacey. Wayne Middaugh
Robert Wayne Middaugh (born September 20, 1967) is a Canadian curler. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Middaugh resides in Victoria Harbour, Ontario. He is the only player to have won the Canadian Men's Curling Championship (known as the Brier) at three different positions: skip (1998), third (2012), and second (1993). He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2020. He currently coaches the Anna Hasselborg rink from Sweden.
