TKA Songs
TKA is an American freestyle/house boy band who were most prominent in the 1980s and early 1990s, particularly in New York City,and Miami. Their name is an acronym that represents their collective initials, and it was said for a time that it also stood for "Total Knowledge in Action." All of TKA's members are of Puerto Rican descent. Many freestyle fans consider them the kings of that genre, although Kayel seemingly downplayed this label, having jokingly stated, "There are no kings in freestyle. TKA is the best-selling and widely considered the most prominent and successful Latin freestyle band in recorded history. K7 (musician)
Louis Sharpe (born August 25, 1966), better known by his stage names K7 or Kayel, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. K7 is the frontman of TKA, the best-selling Latin freestyle group in history. He is signed with Tommy Boy Records. In 1993, K7 released the album, '' Swing Batta Swing'', which featured three singles that reached pop radio: "Zunga Zeng" (produced by Frankie Cutlass), "Hi-De-Ho" (also notably on '' The Mask'' film soundtrack), and K7's biggest hit, "Come Baby Come", which reached No. 18 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart. K7 worked on the air on Manhattan radio stations Hot 97 and WKTU. K7 released another album in 2002 called ''Love, Sex, Money''. Yellowman
Winston Foster , (1956 or 15 January 1959) better known by the stage name Yellowman and also known as King Yellowman, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall deejay. He first became popular in Jamaica in the 1980s, rising to prominence with a series of singles that established his reputation. Yellowman is considered to be one of the genre's pioneers and has been credited with "almost single-handedly reatingthe coarse, crude and fearlessly direct sound of today's dancehall." Spearheading the first generation of dancehall deejays, he brought the genre to an international audience. Career Winston Foster was abandoned by his parents and grew up in the Maxfield Children's Home and the Catholic orphanage Alpha Boys School in Kingston, the latter known for its musical alumni. Puerto Ricans In New York City
The first Puerto Ricans known to have migrated to New York City did so in the mid-1800s when Spain ruled Puerto Rico. Another wave of Puerto Ricans migrated to New York City after the Spanish–American War in 1898. Though no longer subjects of Spain, they were now citizens of an American possession and needed passports to travel to the contiguous United States. That was until 1917, when the United States Congress approved Jones–Shafroth Act which gave Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico U.S. citizenship with certain limitations. Puerto Ricans living in the Mainland United States, however, were given full American citizenship and were allowed to seek political office in the states in which they resided. Two months later, when Congress passed the Selective Service Act, conscription was extended to the Puerto Ricans both on the island and on the mainland. Nuyorican is a portmanteau word blending "New York" (or "Nueva York" in Spanish) and "Puerto Rican," referring to Puerto Ricans located in or around New York City, their culture, or their descendants (especially those raised or currently living in the New York metropolitan area). ''Louder Than Love'' is the second studio album by American Latin freestyle group TKA, released by Tommy Boy Records on August 15, 1990. It was released on CD, LP and cassette. Unlike its predecessor, '' Scars of Love'', this album failed to chart on the U.S. ''Billboard'' magazine Top Pop Albums chart, and received a weaker review (retrospectively) by AllMusic's Alex Henderson.
