The Honor of the Fatherland ( French "L'Honneur de la Patrie") is the national anthem of Niger. It was adopted on June 23, 2023, replacing '' La Nigerienne'', which was adopted in 1961, a year after the country's gaining of independence. History Niger, a former colony of France, became an independent country in 1960. The following year, the country adopted '' La Nigerienne'' as its national anthem. In 2019, President Mahamadou Issoufou announced his plans to replace ''La Nigerienne'', following concerns that the lyrics expressed perceived gratitude towards the colonial power. A committee was established to reflect on the current anthem and find a new anthem if necessary. Mahamadou Issoufou
Mahamadou Issoufou (born 1 January 1952) is a Nigerien politician who served as the president of Niger from 7 April 2011 to 2 April 2021. Issoufou was the prime minister of Niger from 1993 to 1994, president of the National Assembly from 1995 to 1996, and a candidate in each presidential election from 1993 to 2016. He led the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya), a social democratic party, from its foundation in 1990 until his election as president in 2011. During the presidency of Mamadou Tandja (1999–2010), Issoufou was the main opposition leader. Music Of Niger
The music of Niger has developed from the musical traditions of a mix of ethnic groups; Hausa, the Zarma- Songhai, Tuareg, Fula, Kanuri, Toubou, Diffa Arabs and Gurma and the Boudouma from Lac Chad. Most traditions existed quite independently in French West Africa but have begun to form a mixture of styles since the 1960s. While Niger's popular music has had little international attention (in comparison with the music of neighbors Mali or Nigeria), traditional and new musical styles have flourished since the end of the 1980s.
