TFI Cell
Taskforce for Interrogation Cell (), also known as TFI Cell, is a Bangladesh government special interrogation cell operated by Bangladesh's intelligence forces (Directorate General of Forces Intelligence) and special police units (Rapid Action Battalion). It is located inside Rapid Action Battalion headquarters in Uttara, Dhaka. ''The Guardian'' described it as Bangladesh's most notorious torture cell. The other interrogation cell is called Joint Interrogation Cell. History According to ''The Guardian'' the Taskforce for Interrogation Cell uses various forms of torture to interrogate suspects, including British citizens suspected of being terrorists. The Taskforce has coordinated interrogation activities with MI5 and MI6 of Britain, when interrogating British-Bangladeshi suspects. Border Guard Bangladesh (abbr. BGB; ) is a paramilitary force responsible for the border security of Bangladesh. Human Rights In Bangladesh
Human rights in Bangladesh are enshrined as fundamental rights in Part III of the Constitution of Bangladesh. However, constitutional and legal experts believe many of the country's laws require reform to enforce fundamental rights and reflect democratic values of the 21st century. During the period from 2009 to 2023 under the rule of the Awami League-led regime, 2,699 people were victims of extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh. During the same time frame, 677 people were forcibly disappeared, and 1,048 people died in custody. These statistics were revealed by the human rights organization Odhikar. Additionally, the organization claims that if the deaths from the anti-discrimination student protests and incidents from 2024 are included, the total death toll would exceed 3,000. Aynaghar
Aynaghar () is a colloquial term referring to a network of clandestine detention centers which were operated by the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the intelligence branch of Bangladesh's defence forces and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite force unit of Bangladesh Police, during the authoritarian rule of Sheikh Hasina. These facilities have been linked to enforced disappearances and human rights abuses during Sheikh Hasina's tenure as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, particularly from 2009 to 2024. The existence of Aynaghar sparked significant controversy and was consistently denied by the Hasina regime, which faced widespread criticism from human rights organisations and activists. Guest Room (Bangladesh)
The guest room practice was a ragging system or tradition in the residential halls of Bangladeshi universities carried out by Chhatra League, the student wing of Awami League, where seniors teach juniors the "norms and etiquette" of movement on campus and in the halls for political purposes. However, during this practice, students have often been reportedly subjected to physical and mental abuse. General students and local newspapers have described this culture as " torture cells" of Chhatra League. Chhatra League tortured students at various times in order to occupy university dormitories and maintain dominance in campuses across the country. Mohammad Mainul Islam SBP, OSP, psc (born 4 December 1959) is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army. He is the former principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division and chief of general staff (CGS) of the Bangladesh Army. He also served as director general of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), later renamed as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). He is currently the president of the Bangladesh Archery Federation. Pilkhana, Bangladesh
Pilkhana is a para-military cantonment in Dhaka. It is the headquarters of Border Guard Bangladesh, located to the south of Dhanmondi in Dhaka of Bangladesh. Etymology The word ''Pilkhana'' means "stable of elephants". Pilkhana is not officially named in any record of Dhaka City Corporation, but this is the popular name of this place as elephants are a part of its history (''pil'' means "elephant" and ''khana'' means "home"). History During the Mughal period, the royal elephants kept in this place used to go for grazing in the nearby jungle to the east, which was later turned into Dhaka Nawab's Garden, now known as Paribagh and Shahbagh.
