TBD Science Fiction Story Award
The TBD Science Fiction Story Award ''(TBD Bilimkurgu Öykü Yarışması)'' is an award for Turkish science fiction given to the winner of the TBD (Turkish Informatics Association) Science Fiction Story Contest. This is the only institutionalized contest in the area of science fiction story in Turkey since its foundation in 1998. The contest specification is posted every April on www.tbd.org.tr or www.bilisimdergisi.org. The award ceremony is held every autumn during the Information Convention in Ankara, Turkey. The contest strives to arouse interest in science fiction in young writers with potential, seek answers for “what have we been, what have we become, what will we be?” and raise the number of Works in Turkish science fiction. So as to awaken more interest, TBD also organizes a “guess the winner story” contest. The number of contest participants between 1998-2011 have been over 1500. An awards ceremony is a type of ceremony where awards are given out. The ceremony may be arranged by a government organization, a society, a school, a trade association or even a company that specializes in running awards ceremonies. Typically a master of ceremonies presents award winners, speaks to the audience, entertains people, and generally keeps the ceremony moving. Ancient Greece The Ancient Greeks held annual competitions for tragedy and comedy, financed by the wealthiest citizens. Awards were given out for best play, best producer and best actor. Nazlı Eray is a Turkish writer known for her writings that combine real and fictional people. Early life and education Eray was born 28 June 1945 in Ankara. She graduated from the British Girls' Secondary School in Istanbul in 1958 and then from Arnavutköy Girls' College in 1962. Eray went on to study law at Istanbul University. From 1965 until 1968 Eray worked as a translator in Turkey, before shifting to working as a writer. Writing career Eray started writing with the story ''Monsieur Hristo.'' Buket Uzuner (born 3 October 1955, in Ankara, Turkey) is a Turkish writer, author of novels, short stories, and travelogues. She studied biology and environmental science and has conducted research and presented lectures at universities in Turkey, Norway, the United States, and Finland. Her works have been translated into eight languages: Spanish, English, Italian, Greek, Romanian, Hebrew, Korean, and Bulgarian. Alper Sezener (born 1977) is a Turkish author of novels and short stories. Alper Sezener was born in Istanbul and graduated with a degree in philosophy (1999) and anthropology (2004) from Hacettepe University. After graduating he worked as an expert and administrator at the international development projects and construction-petroleum companies. He lives in Ankara.
