T. J. Donovan
Thomas J. "T. J." Donovan Jr. (born January 15, 1974) is an American lawyer and politician who served as Vermont Attorney General from 2017 to 2022. He was first elected in 2016 with over 66 percent of the vote. He previously served for ten years as State's Attorney of Chittenden County, Vermont, Chittenden County, the most populous county in Vermont. Donovan is known for starting the Rapid Intervention Community Court (RICC) in Chittenden County, a criminal justice program made available to non-violent offenders whose crimes have been driven by addiction or mental illness. During his first month in office, Attorney General Donovan joined sixteen other states in Legal challenges to Executive Order 13769, an ''amicus'' brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Vermont attorney general is a statewide elected executive official in the U.S. state of Vermont who is elected every two years. It was created by an act of the Vermont General Assembly in 1790, repealed in 1797, and revived in 1904. Peter Elliott Shumlin (born March 24, 1956) is an American politician from Vermont. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 81st governor of Vermont from 2011 to 2017. He was first elected to the office in 2010, and was reelected to a second term in 2012. In 2014 he received a narrow plurality in his race for reelection, but did not attain the 50% threshold mandated by the Constitution of Vermont. In such cases the Vermont General Assembly elects the winner.
