Sørfold is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Salten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Straumen. Other villages in the municipality include Leirfjordgården, Mørsvikbotn, Røsvika, Rørstad, Styrkesvik, and Øvre Kvarv. The municipality surrounds the Sørfolda fjord and stretches east to the border with Sweden. The municipality is the 48th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Sørfold is the 286th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 1,869. Straumen, Nordland
Straumen is the administrative centre of Sørfold Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located at the end of the Sørfolda fjord, along the European route E06 highway. The lake Straumvatnet lies on the southeastern side of the village, and the town of Fauske lies about to the southwest. In physical geography, a fjord or fiord () is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier. Folda, Nordland
The Folda or Folla is a fjord in Nordland county, Norway. The fjord is located in the municipalities of Bodø, Steigen, and Sørfold. The Folda empties into the Vestfjorden about northeast of the town of Bodø. The fjord is about wide in the west where it joins the Vestfjorden between the Kjerringøy and Leiranger peninsulas. The Folda fjord has many fjord arms which split off from the main fjord. There are two main inland branches: the Nordfolda (in Steigen Municipality) and the Sørfolda (in Bodø and Sørfold municipalities). Nordfold Municipality
Nordfold is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1906 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality surrounded the Nordfolda branch off of the Folda fjord in what is now Steigen Municipality, plus a small portion of the present-day Sørfold Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Nordfold, where the Nordfold Church is located. History The municipality of Nordfold was established on 1 January 1906 when the old Nordfold-Kjerringøy Municipality was split into two new municipalities: Nordfold (population: 1,485) and Kjerringøy (population: 857). Bodin
Bodin is a parish and former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1968. It was a large municipality encompassing all of the mainland area around the town of Bodø and part of the land on the southern shore of the Saltfjorden. The municipality also included over of islands, notably the islands of Helligvær, Landegode, Bliksvær, and Givær plus numerous others. Nordfold-Kjerringøy or Nordfold og Kjerringøy is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1887 until its dissolution in 1906. The municipality covered the area surrounding the entrance to the large Folda fjord plus the area surrounding the northern branch of that fjord. It included the southern part of what is now Steigen Municipality, the northern part of the present-day Bodø Municipality, and the northern part of what is now Sørfold Municipality.
