Søren Hans Smith Sørensen
Søren Hans Smith Sørensen (9 December 1885 – 31 March 1973) was a Norwegian ship-owner and politician for the Conservative Party. Sørensen was born on the island of Tromøya in Aust-Agder, Norway. He was the son of ship builder, O. B. Sørensen (1836-1916) who established Bratteklev skipsverft on Tromøya. He started as a ship captain in 1912. After the death of his father in 1916, he ran the combined business of ship-ownership and shipbuilding until his own death in 1973. In 1930, he established Smith-Sørensens Tankrederi in Arendal. He was also involved in local marine insurance. He was a member of Tromøy municipal council during the term 1916–1919, and then served as mayor from 1919 to 1941 and in 1945. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Aust-Agder in 1945, but was not re-elected in 1949. Tromøya
Tromøya () or Tromøy () (historic: ''Tromø'') is the largest island in Southern Norway. The island is entirely located in the municipality of Arendal in Agder county, Norway. The island has about 5,300 residents (in 2015) which gives it a population density of about . The island is located directly across the harbor from the town of Arendal. The highest point on the island is the tall Vardåsen. The island is separated from the mainland to the north by the Tromøysundet strait and it is separated from the island of Hisøya to the southwest by the Galtesundet strait. Aust-Agder
Aust-Agder (, ) was a county (''fylke'') in Norway from 1 January 1919 to 31 December 2019, after it was merged with Vest-Agder to form Agder county. In 2002, there were 102,945 inhabitants, which was 2.2% of Norway's population. Its area was . The county's administrative center was the town of Arendal. Tromøy
Tromøy (historic: ''Tromø'') is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1878 until its dissolution in 1992. The municipal area is now part of the municipality of Arendal in Agder county. The administrative centre was the village of Brekka, where the historic Tromøy Church is located. The municipality encompassed all of the island of Tromøya as well as many smaller surrounding islands such as Merdø, Gjesøya, Skilsøy, and Tromlingene. The municipality had two churches: the centuries-old Tromøy Church and the relatively new Færvik Church.
