Sébastian Jacot
Sébastian Jacot is a Swiss classical flutist. He has been one of the principal flutists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from November 2022 to November 2024. Early life Jacot began playing flute at age 8. He studied under Isabelle Giraud and Jacques Zoon, graduating from the Conservatoire de musique de Genève in 2010. Career At age 18, Jacot was appointed assistant principal flute of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under Edo de Waart. He held this position for two years, subsequently playing with the Mozart Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and the Saito Kinen Orchestra. He was a jury member at the 2021 Cluj International Music Competition. In May 2022, Jacot won the position of principal flute with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, replacing Mathieu Dufour. Carl Nielsen International Competition ( Danish: ''Carl Nielsen Konkurrencen'') is a competition for classical musicians (violin, clarinet, and flute) held in Odense, Denmark, in memory of the composer Carl Nielsen. Overview The competition was established in 1980 under the patronage of Queen Margarethe of Denmark. It became a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1981. Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra
The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (Gewandhausorchester; also previously known in German as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig) is a German symphony orchestra based in Leipzig, Germany. The orchestra is named after the concert hall in which it is based, the Gewandhaus ("Garment House"). In addition to its concert duties, the orchestra also performs frequently in the Thomaskirche and as the official opera orchestra of the Leipzig Opera. Mathieu Dufour
Mathieu Dufour (born 28 December 1973 in Paris) is a French classical flutist. He is a former principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic. Early life Dufour began playing the flute at the age of 8. He studied under Madeleine Chassang and Maxence Larrieu at the Lyon Conservatory. Career Dufour was appointed principal flute of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in 1993, and then held the same position with the Paris Opera in 1996. He plays on a Yamaha YFL-997 flute. Dufour was appointed principal flute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1999 by Daniel Barenboim. He briefly left in September 2009 to play principal flute with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, though later stated he had joined them on a one-year trial basis and was able to hold positions with both orchestras. The Saito Kinen Orchestra is an orchestra formed annually during the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, which is held every August and September in Matsumoto city, Nagano, Japan. The orchestra is managed by the Saito Kinen Foundation. History In September 1984, under the leadership of Seiji Ozawa and Kazuyoshi Akiyama, a group of Japanese musicians from all over the world gathered together in Japan to perform a series of concerts in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the death of Hideo Saito—co-founder of the Toho Gakuen School of Music and mentor to those conductors and musicians.
