São Paulo Municipal Government
The São Paulo Municipal Government, composed of the Executive and the Legislative branches, is based in São Paulo, which is the main financial, corporate and commercial center in Latin America and the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere. It had 11.451.245 inhabitants in 2022. Executive Direct administration The executive is represented by the mayor and his cabinet of secretaries, according to the model proposed by the Federal Constitution. Since 2004, it has been based in the Matarazzo Building, built in the 1930s. The mayor and vice-mayor are elected by universal suffrage and direct and secret ballot by the population for 4-year terms, with the possibility of re-election for another consecutive term. Eligibility requirements for both positions are Brazilian nationality, exercise of political rights, electoral domicile in the city, party membership and a minimum age of 21. Ricardo Nunes (politician)
Ricardo Luis Reis Nunes (born 13 November 1967) is a Brazilian businessman and politician who is the current mayor of São Paulo, having assumed office on 16 May 2021 following the death of mayor Bruno Covas. He is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement. Career Nunes was elected a city councillor for São Paulo in 2012 and 2016, having been part of the pro-government coalition of mayor Fernando Haddad, of the Workers' Party. While serving as a member of the Municipal Assembly, Nunes held positions on legislative inquiry committees such as a committee on banks, in 2019, which investigated tax evasion of social security services in the state capital. In 2016 he supported amnesty of churches in irregular situation during zoning laws. Nunes gained notoriety in the media for being actively against the inclusion of sexuality and gender in the city education plan. Vila Formosa
Vila Formosa is one of the 96 districts in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. History Founded in 1923, Vila Formosa is located in the east side of the city of São Paulo. Before 1923 it was part of the district of Tatuapé. Most of the region belonged to the Casa Grande family who owned a large part of the region that later was acquired by the Jacob brothers. Itaim Paulista
Itaim Paulista is a district in the subprefecture of the same name in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The name ''Itaim'' comes from Tupi and means ''Little Stone''. There is a large Pentecostalist Evangelical Protestant presence in the suburban areas along with a flourishing Catholic community. Despite significant poverty there is a surfaced road network and a good basic sanitation system. The area is served by banks, retail and wholesale shopping establishments, supermarkets, hospitals and clinics. The Shopping Itaim Paulista shopping centre and the Itaim Paulista General Hospital were opened recently. The area is linked to the rest of São Paulo by the Metropolitan Train Company ( CPTM)'s Line 12. The local stations are Itaim Paulista (CPTM) and Jardim Romano (CPTM). Ipiranga (district Of São Paulo)
Ipiranga (, from the Tupi (''y'', river; ''pirang'', red) for "red river") is a historical district located in the subprefecture of the same name of São Paulo, Brazil. The name Ipiranga comes from the river (which now is a brook) of the same name located in the region, which means "red river" in a Tupí–Guaraní language. The Independence Park (Parque da Independência), where supposedly the Emperor Pedro I of Brazil proclaimed the independence of Brazil, the Paulista Museum, which exhibits classic architecture and a collection of Brazilian colonial artifacts, and the Museum of Zoology of the University of São Paulo, are also located in Ipiranga. The Subprefecture of Capela do Socorro is one of 32 subprefectures of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It comprises three districts: Socorro, Grajaú, and Cidade Dutra. This is the most populous subprefecture of São Paulo, with a total population of 672,901 inhabitants according to the census of 2010.
