São Clemente (Loulé)
São Clemente is a Portuguese civil parish (''freguesia'') in the municipality of Loulé. The church of St. Clemente (Portuguese: Igreja Matriz de São Clemente) is the oldest and most important church in Loulé. It dates back to the second half of the 13th century and was built on the site of a former mosque The Church built in Gothic style consists of three naves, divided by Gothic arches supported by narrow columns. In the 16th century, several side chapels were added and five altarpieces were built. Located across the church is Jardim dos Amuados which is an old Arab Muslim cemetery. The St. Clemente Church bell tower is the oldest part of the church. It dates to the period of Muslim Moor rule in Portugal. It was the original minaret of a former mosque and used for issuing the Islamic call to prayer ( Adhaan) five times a day for faithful to come to the mosque for congregation. Fafe (), officially the City of Fafe (), is a city and municipality in the northern Portuguese district of Braga. The population in 2021 was 48,502, in an area of approximately . The city itself had a population of 15,703 in 2011. The present mayor is Antero Barbosa, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is May 16. History In the 10th century King Ordoño III of León donated the Vila de Moraria (Moreira de Rei) and Monte Longo to the monastery of Guimarães, founded by the Countess Mumadona. The Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba São Clemente is a samba school from Rio de Janeiro, located in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, on Avenida Presidente Vargas. The school became famous over the years for plots regarded as full of good humor, and sarcastic criticism of the most diverse themes. São Clemente also has sand beach soccer teams in various categories, commonly considered to be one of the few great teams of this sport that does not belong to the Copacabana-Leblon axis. The constant oscillation between the main groups of carnival brought it the nickname of "yo-yo" school. Due to history lines panfletics of the 1980 the school also became known as the " PT of samba". In the current decade, however, the school has been trying to print a new style to make carnival.
