Sátoraljaújhely District
Sátoraljaújhely () is a district in north-eastern part of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. ''Sátoraljaújhely'' is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. The district is located in the Northern Hungary Statistical Region. Geography Sátoraljaújhely District borders with the Slovakian region of Košice to the northeast, Cigánd District and Sárospatak District to the south, Gönc District to the west. The number of the inhabited places in Sátoraljaújhely District is 21. Municipalities The district has 2 towns and 19 villages. Districts of Hungary are the second-level divisions of Hungary after counties. They replaced the 175 subregions of Hungary in 2013. There are 174 districts in the 19 counties, and there are 23 districts in Budapest. Pálháza
Pálháza () is a town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, Hungary, east from county capital Miskolc. History The area has been inhabited since ancient times. The village was founded in the 1320s and belonged to the Füzér estate. It was first mentioned in 1387. The village was destroyed several times during the Hussite wars and the Ottoman wars in Europe, Ottoman occupation of Hungary. In 1711 a pandemic, plague killed the inhabitants. The village was mentioned again in 1786. Its lumber mill, the predecessor of today's lumber factory was built in 1875. It was followed by the construction of a narrow gauge railway route, the first forest railway in Hungary. The national animal fair has been organized in Pálháza regularly since 1914. After the Treaty of Trianon Pálháza became a village near the new state border, but the village began to prosper again. In 1958 a mine was opened nearby.
