Sánchez, Dominican Republic
Sánchez is a municipality located in the Samaná Province of the Dominican Republic, situated on the southern coast of the Samaná Peninsula. History Originally known as ''Las Cañitas,'' the town was designated a municipality in 1866 and renamed in honor of Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, one of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic. Sánchez initially thrived as a small town but gained significant importance with the introduction of a railway linking it to La Vega in the Cibao region. This railway helped Sánchez become one of the country's most vital ports in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, by 1966, the railway ceased operations, and Sánchez's port began to lose its prominence. Samaná Province
Samaná () is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province of the Dominican Republic in the Samaná Peninsula located in the eastern region. Its Capital (political), capital is Samaná (town), Santa Bárbara de Samaná, usually known as Samaná. The province is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. It is known for the mountains of which it is almost entirely formed. The Cibao, usually referred as El Cibao, is a region of the Dominican Republic located in the northern part of the country. As of 2009, the Cibao region has a population of 5,622,378, making it the most populous region in the country. The region constitutes a "developed macro-region"; with a large industrial base and high levels of progress among its inhabitants, it has the highest levels of education and the highest quality of life among the three main regions of the Dominican Republic. Yuna River
The Yuna River (Spanish: ''Río Yuna'') is the second longest river in the Dominican Republic, stretching for a length of 185.17 km (115.06 miles). It forms within the Cordillera Central, Dominican Republic, Cordillera Central mountain range southwest of the city of Bonao in Monseñor Nouel Province, and passes through the fertile Cibao Valley. As the river courses north-northeast, it passes through the city of Bonao. Southwest of Cotuí, the river reaches Hatillo Dam (Spanish: ''Presa de Hatillo'') before turning northeast then east as it reaches its mouth at the Samaná Bay in the northeast part of the Dominican Republic. Samaná Bay
Samaná Bay is a bay in the eastern Dominican Republic. The Yuna River flows into Samaná Bay, and it is located south of the town of Samaná and the Samaná Peninsula. Wildlife Among its features are protected islands that serve as nesting sites for pelicans and frigatebirds, caves with Taíno pictographs and petroglyphs, and mangrove-lined river tributaries. It is a significant breeding site for the humpback whale in the Caribbean; the breeding season attracts many whale-watchers. Geography Samaná Bay lies along the boundary between the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate. Two named fault lines run the length of Samaná Bay.
