Syrian Basketball Federation
The Syrian Basketball Federation is the Sports governing body, governing body of basketball in Syria. It organizes national professional championships Syrian Basketball League, men, women and youth, while it is also responsible for holding the Syrian Cup (men's basketball) , cup of the country. It also coordinates the Syria national basketball team, Syria men's national basketball team and the Syria women's national basketball team. The federation founded in 1947, represents basketball with public authorities as well as with national and international sports organizations and as such with Syria in international competitions. It also defends the moral and material interests of Basketball in Syria. It is affiliated with International Basketball Federation, FIBA and FIBA Asia. As of early December 2021, the president has been Taríf Koutrach. Al Khaleej ( ar, الخليج, lit=The Gulf) is a daily Arabic-language broadsheet newspaper published in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by Dar Al Khaleej. The daily is the first newspaper published in the country. History ''Al Khaleej'' was launched by brothers Taryam and Abdullah Omran Taryam on 19 October 1970. However, the paper was closed down because of financial difficulties on 22 February 1972 after nearly 300 issues. In 1979 it was relaunched as a daily with 16 pages. The sister daily of the paper is '' Gulf Today''. From 1980 to 1983 Adly Barsoum, an Egyptian journalist and writer, worked in the newspaper as deputy editor-in-chief and played a major role in the reformation and development of the newspaper. Syrian Basketball Super Cup
The Syrian Basketball Super Cup ( ar, كأس السوبر السوري لكرة السلة) is the top-tier level national domestic basketball super cup competition, that is played between professional clubs in Syria. It was founded in 2021 as a new super cup composed of the best Syrian clubs. In 2022, two clubs from the Lebanese Basketball League joined the Super Cup. Format According to the current format of the competition, the four best ranked teams from the previous season of the Syrian Basketball League, together with the winner of the Syrian Cup, will automatically qualify. In 2022, the Syrian Basketball Federation agreed with the Lebanese Basketball Federation that in the 2022-23 season, 2 clubs from the Lebanese Basketball League will also start in the competition. In the first round, the teams play one match each, and the two best advance to the finals. The final is played in one match. The competition takes place every year in October.
