The women's solo synchronized swimming event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games was held on 6 and 7 October, at the SPM Swimming Pool Complex. Eight soloists competed. There were two rounds of competition, with the preliminary round consisting of a technical routine and a free routine. Synchronized Swimming
Synchronized swimming (in British English, synchronised swimming), also known as artistic swimming, is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics (formerly known as FINA). It has traditionally been a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and European Aquatics introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. From 2024, men are able to compete in the team event at the Olympics. Synchronized swimming has been part of the Summer Olympics program since 1984, featuring both women's duet and team events. 2010 Commonwealth Games
The 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Delhi 2010, were an international multi-sport event for the members of the Commonwealth that was held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 4352 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events, making it the largest Commonwealth Games to date. It was also the largest international multi-sport event to be staged in Delhi and India, eclipsing the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening and closing ceremonies were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium of the event. It was the first time that the Commonwealth Games were held in India and the second time they were held in Asia after Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998. The Dr. S. P. Mukherjee Swimming Stadium or SPM Swimming Pool Complex is a swimming complex in New Delhi, India, that is hosting the aquatics events for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon
Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon (born March 3, 1983, in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec) is a Canadian synchronized swimmer and four times Commonwealth Games gold medalist. Career She first became interested in synchronized swimming at the age of seven after watching Sylvie Fréchette on television, and has been a member of Synchro Canada's national team since 1998. Marie-Pier represented Canada in the women's solo event at the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games Gagnon won two gold medals in the women's solo and women's duet (with Isabelle Rampling). She repeated this feat at the following Commonwealth Games with a further two golds. Jenna Margaret Randall (born 20 September 1988) is an English former Synchronised swimmer who represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. She is also a three-time Commonwealth Games silver medallist. Personal life Randall was born in Ascot, Berkshire, England and educated at Hurst Lodge School, Ascot. Avani is a small village in Mulabaagilu taluk, Kolara district in Karnataka, India, about ten miles from Kolar Gold Fields.
