Sync (other)
Sync and synch are abbreviations of synchrony, or synchronization, the coordination of events to keep them in time. The opposite of synchrony is Asynchrony (other), asynchrony. Sync or synch may also refer to: Computing and technology *Sync (Unix), a command and a system call for Unix-like operating systems *Data synchronization, keeping multiple copies of a dataset in coherence with one another *File synchronization or syncing, to synchronize directories or files on computers *Browser synchronization, cloud service provided by web browser vendors for users to synchronize settings and data on multiple devices *Microsoft Sync Framework, a data synchronization platform from Microsoft *Resilio Sync (formerly BitTorrent Sync), a peer-to-peer file synchronization tool *Synchronization (computer science), relates to similar principles of synchronization of processes or data *Syncthing, an open source peer-to-peer file synchronization tool *SyncToy, a Microsoft PowerToy's softw ...

Synchronization
Synchronization is the coordination of events to operate a system in unison. For example, the Conductor (music), conductor of an orchestra keeps the orchestra synchronized or ''in time''. Systems that operate with all parts in synchrony are said to be synchronous or ''in sync''—and those that are not are ''Asynchronous system, asynchronous''. Today, time synchronization can occur between systems around the world through satellite navigation signals and other time and frequency transfer techniques. Navigation and railways Time-keeping and synchronization of clocks is a critical problem in long-distance ocean navigation. Before radio navigation and Radionavigation-satellite service, satellite-based navigation, navigators required accurate time in conjunction with astronomical observations to determine History of longitude, how far east or west their vessel traveled. The invention of an accurate marine chronometer revolutionized marine navigation. By the end of the 19th cent ...

Oscillator Sync
Oscillator sync is a feature in some synthesizers with two or more VCOs, DCOs, or "virtual" oscillators. As one oscillator finishes a cycle, it resets the period of another oscillator, forcing the latter to have the same base frequency. This can produce a harmonically rich sound, the timbre of which can be altered by varying the synced oscillator's frequency. A synced oscillator that resets other oscillator(s) is called the leader; the oscillators which it resets are called followers. There are two common forms of oscillator sync which appear on synthesizers: Hard Sync and Soft Sync. According to ''Sound on Sound'' journalist Gordon Reid, oscillator sync is "one of the least understood facilities on any synthesizer". Hard Sync The leader oscillator's pitch is generated by user input (typically the synthesizer's keyboard), and is arbitrary. The follower oscillator's pitch may be tuned to (or detuned from) this frequency, or may remain constant. Every time the leader oscillator' ...

Synchronization Rights
A music synchronization license, or "sync" for short, is a music license granted by the holder of the copyright of a particular composition, allowing the licensee to synchronize ("sync") their music with various forms of media output (film, television shows, advertisements, video games, accompanying website music, movie trailers, etc.). Copyright ownership The rights to a composition or the "song", which is different from the studio sound recording, are most often administered by the publishing company that represents the writer/producer. A sound recording has two separated copyrights: # the sound recording itself, also called the ''"master" sound recording''; this is most often owned or administered by the record label; # the ''composition'' of the musical work, which consists of the underlying lyrics and melody written by the songwriter; this is most often owned or administered by the music publisher. Synchronization (alternating Current)
In an alternating current (AC) electric power system, synchronization is the process of matching the frequency, phase and voltage of a generator or other source to an electrical grid in order to transfer power. If two unconnected segments of a grid are to be connected to each other, they cannot safely exchange AC power until they are synchronized. A direct current (DC) generator can be connected to a power network simply by adjusting its open-circuit terminal voltage to match the network's voltage, by either adjusting its speed or its field excitation. The exact engine speed is not critical. However, an AC generator must additionally match its timing (frequency and phase) to the network voltage, which requires both speed and excitation to be systematically controlled for synchronization. This extra complexity was one of the arguments against AC operation during the war of currents in the 1880s. In modern grids, synchronization of generators is carried out by automatic systems. C ...
