Sympathique
''Sympathique'' is the first studio album from American band Pink Martini. It was released on November 11, 1997 by Pink Martini's own record label, Heinz Records. As of 2013 it has sold over one million copies worldwide. Their first single, Sympathique, was released in 1997 and was nominated as "Song of the Year" at the "Victoires de la Musique Awards" in France. The album is certified Platinum in France and Greece, and Gold in Canada, Switzerland, and Turkey. 20th Anniversary Edition In 2018, ''Sympathique: 20th Anniversary Edition'' was released by Heinz Records and its global licensees. Pink Martini's arrangement of Maurice Ravel's "Bolero" had been on the original release of "Sympathique" (track 9), but was removed from the album in subsequent reissues due to a legal dispute with the Ravel estate. Thomas Lauderdale
Thomas Mack Lauderdale (born July 14, 1970) is an American musician and pianist, largely known for his work with his Portland-based band Pink Martini. Early life Thomas Mack Lauderdale was born in 1970 in Oakland, California, and adopted by Kerby Roy and Linda Sue, née Mikesell. In 1972, the family moved to Indiana, where his father was pastor at Eel River Church of the Brethren. After church services, Lauderdale usually went to the piano, and tried to replicate the hymns he heard. His parents bought for him an upright piano at an auction and so he began his formal musical studies at age six with Patricia Garrison of North Manchester, Indiana and later, Joyanne Jones at Indiana University/Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1976, his father resigned from the ministry and the Lauderdale family opened a plant nursery near North Manchester. ''Hang On Little Tomato'' is the second studio album by American band Pink Martini, released on October 19, 2004, by their own record label, Heinz Records. It has been certified gold in France, Canada, Greece, and Turkey. It was then certified double platinum in France by the UPFI in 2013. In 2014, it was awarded a platinum certification from the Independent Music Companies Association, denoting sales in excess of 400,000 copies across Europe. China Forbes (born April 29, 1970) is an American singer and songwriter who has been the lead singer of the band Pink Martini since 1995. In 2022 she was the Ella Fitzgerald award winner at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Life and career The daughter of Peggy (née Woodford) and Donald Cameron Forbes, China Forbes was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts. "Amado Mio" is a song from the classic 1946 film noir '' Gilda'', written by Doris Fisher and Allan Roberts. The piece was lip-synched by Rita Hayworth and sung by Anita Kert Ellis. Grace Jones's rendition of the song on her 1989 album ''Bulletproof Heart'' was released as a single in a special "Brazilian Mix" in 1990. It became a significant dance hit in the US. "Que Será, Será (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" is a song written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans and first published in 1955. Doris Day introduced it in the Alfred Hitchcock film '' The Man Who Knew Too Much'' (1956), singing it as a cue to their onscreen kidnapped son. The three verses of the song progress through the life of the narrator—from childhood, through young adulthood and falling in love, to parenthood—and each asks "What will I be?" or "What lies ahead?" The chorus repeats the answer: "What will be, will be." Day's recording of the song for Columbia Records made it to number two on the Billboard Top 100 chart and number one in the UK Singles Chart.
