Sylwester Braun
Sylwester Braun (code-name "Kris", 1 January 1909, Warsaw – 2 February 1996, Warsaw) was a Polish photographer, Home Army officer. He is known for taking photos during the Nazi Occupation of Poland and the Warsaw Uprising. Braun was born on 1 January 1909 in Warsaw. During the Warsaw Uprising he took 3000 photographs of battles, people, destruction, and everyday life in the fighting city. Generally he operated in the Śródmieście district. After the capitulation of Warsaw, he escaped from the city, returning in January 1945 to retrieve his negatives. The Bureau of Information and Propaganda of the Headquarters of Związek Walki Zbrojnej, later of Armia Krajowa ( - in short: ''BIP''), a conspiracy department created in spring 1940 during the German occupation of Poland, inside the Związek Walki Zbrojnej, then of the Supreme Command of Armia Krajowa (as 6th Department). Initially, its commander was Major Tadeusz Kruk-Strzelecki, then Colonel Jan Rzepecki pseudonym "Wolski" or "Prezes". Until the end of 1940, his deputy was Hipolit Niepokólczycki, while since 1944 until January 1945, Captain Kazimierz Moczarski. Museum of Warsaw () (in 1948–2014 ''Historical Museum of Warsaw'', ) is a museum in the Old Town Market Place in Warsaw, Poland. It was established in 1936. History of the museum The facility was established in 1936 as the Museum of Old Warsaw. It was then housed in three buildings purchased by the municipality in the market square. The museum, along with the collection, was destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising during World War II. After the war, the museum was reopened under its current name and buildings for it were rebuilt in the years 1948–1954 in the context of the unprecedented reconstruction of historic Warsaw. In 2010-2012 the eleven houses of the museum were renovated with the help of Norwegian funding. In April 2014 museum changed its name to ''Museum of Warsaw''. The Capitulation Of Warsaw After The Warsaw Uprising
The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 was ended through a capitulation agreement which guaranteed not only the rights of the resistance to be treated as prisoners of war but also was designed to guarantee the fair treatment of the civilians living in Warsaw. This agreement, between General Tadeusz Bór-Komorowski and SS General Erich von dem Bach, had taken a long period of on-and-off negotiations to achieve. Signing of the capitulation treaty On October 3, General Tadeusz Bór-Komorowski signed the capitulation of the remaining Polish forces (''Warszawski Korpus Armii Krajowej'' or Home Army Warsaw Corps) in the German headquarters in the presence of General Erich von dem Bach-Zelewski. According to the capitulation treaty, the Home Army soldiers were to be treated in accordance with the Geneva Convention and the civilian population was to be treated humanely.
