Sylvia Sass
Sylvia Sass (born 12 July 1951) is a Hungarian operatic soprano who has sung leading roles both in her native country and internationally. Life and career Born in Budapest, Sass studied at Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with Olga Révhegyi and Pál Varga. She made her professional debut at the Hungarian State Opera, as Frasquita in Bizet's ''Carmen'', in 1971. The following year, she appeared at the Sofia National Opera, as Violetta in '' La traviata'', and during the 1974-75 season at the Salzburg Festival singing Mozart in concert. ''Tosca'' is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It premiered at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 14 January 1900. The work, based on Victorien Sardou's 1887 French-language dramatic play, ''La Tosca'', is a melodramatic piece set in Rome in June 1800, with the Kingdom of Naples's control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's Campaigns of 1800 in the French Revolutionary Wars#Italy, invasion of Italy. ''Manon Lescaut'' () is an Italian-language opera in four acts composed by Giacomo Puccini between 1889 and 1892 to a libretto by Luigi Illica, Marco Praga and , based on the 1731 novel ''Manon Lescaut, Histoire du Chevalier des Grieux, et de Manon Lescaut'' by Abbé Prévost. The opera was first performed in 1893 in Turin, at the Teatro Regio (Turin), Teatro Regio. The Teatro Municipal of Caracas is an opera house in Venezuela. It was inaugurated by President Guzmán Blanco in 1881. The theatre was initially named after the president.
